I have this discussion with my young LTs all the time. There is always more work to do. Always more things to accomplish. But you can't do any of that if you don't go home and take a break and make time for yourself.

Can you comment on setting boundaries in hierarchical or authoritarian workplaces (for example, certain civilian jobs--or military assignments in which the immediate supervisor has the power of evaluations, counseling statements, and the Uniform Code of Military Justice)? I had a friend who was assigned to an office job in his last few years of service as an Army officer and whose health suffered because of dealing with toxic leadership in a confined space where walking off the job wasn’t an option.

I offered a chain to my neighbour so he could install a swing for his daughter. This happened the first weekend of lockdown. I said as soon as things open up and you can get a new one drop the chain off to me. I’ve asked for it 3 times now- fell on deaf ears. The chain is now a part of the tree limb it was hung from. During all this I was diagnosed with and treated for cancer, and now I have an inguinal hernia, so needless to say my health isn’t on my side. I ask myself everyday should I or shouldn’t I go over and cut down the branch and retrieve my chain? This is definitely a boundary violation.
