Why YOU should learn economics!

Why should you learn economics? Put simply, it's becasue it will make you a better decision maker and help you see the "unseen". Economics is the study how we deal with scarcity so we can use our resources as efficiently as possible. So whether it's in your personal life or when you run a business or when you promote a government policy, thinking like an economist will help you maximize your own happiness, make the most profit, or help the most people.

I've made a ton of videos to help you learn and practice economics. Feel free to check out the macroeconomics and microeconomics playslist below, as well as, the playlist of some of my favorite videos. Thanks for watching.

You have no idea how much I needed this. I am an economics major and given the fact that my professors arent really passionate about economics makes me question what is really the point of studying it in the first place.

With the help of your videos and the review packet, I was able to pass the Macroeconomics CLEP with flying colors, all for $12. I expect to take Microeconomics very soon. Thank you so much Mr. Clifford, and keep making awesome videos.

Law student here. I don't regret choosing law for my undergraduate degree but I've grown so much interest in economics. I think I'll do my masters in economics.

I believe strongly that children are raised by family and parents and parents can shape their lives incredibly. Parents can turn their sons into Economists or Professors or Professional Athletes if I am to believe the many stories I read about every day. Kids can also influence their own lives but when I was a kid this became a symbiotic relationship between family, church, school and myself. My family was seriously interested in improving the world and there were many issues they were interested in. Basically I decided - after a lot of thought - to study Economics in College as preparation for Law School. Ambitious? Yes. Practical? Yes, if you have the money for college? I figured that it was a step by step process. Probably I would have to work... and if I didn't make it to Law School (a possibility) then Economics was a great background for earning a living ... or so I believed. I am not sure Economics has helped me to "see the unseen" exactly. But I believe in the Analysis. For example, to "help 3rd world countries" there are some people who believe that people can pull themselves up by their own bootstraps somehow and make it on their own. But Economics today operates in the Millions and Hundreds of Millions of Dollar investment plain of reality and I believe that if you want to benefit people in a 3rd world country that you probably will have to invest a lot of money in the modern Economy. A lesson from my Economics classes and very visible and easily "seen" (in my opinion) once you get hold of the facts. To be honest, while this is about Money it is also about people and making people better as well by giving them better opportunities and such. Hopefully they don't earn a lot of money only to spend it on Cigarettes and Beer... I hope Economic growth makes people better. Makes them want more education and more of the "good things" in life. And I hope it does not make people lazy or useless. The real test of Economics and growth in my own opinion is personal growth and making people better as time progresses. At least that is my hope. Maslow speaks of "self-actualization" and becoming full human beings. If your basic needs are not met - food, friends, shelter, clothing and such.... How can people reach their full potential? Do they need suffering to help them reach this potential? Well, maybe. I am not sure. But a life of only suffering... surely that is not good for a person or for society as a whole. And maybe with Economics as a foundation for some special individuals there can be improvement. Would I like to be wealthy? Rich? I think it might be an interesting perspective. If only to help me understand people better. If you can do what you want and meet who you want and be who you want then this might lead to helping and benefiting society and others.

Why I study economics? hate to be honest, but the truth is it's a compulsory subject that i have to do as part of my entire degree. I love how you made me reconsider this and think deeply about the essence of what economics is about which you mentioned is about decision making. I'll keep this in mind while preparing for my microeconomics exam. Do you have any tip for preparing for an ECON130 exam? My tutor said to go through past year papers and find common trends because they will likely come in the exam

I've recently decided to study Economics because I really want to have a big understanding about the world. I mean everyone knows things but just a small part of them has an idea about our decisions, our country's politics and everything that determines our wellbeing.
We all have a daily routine and most of the time don't spend time on thinking why all the things running in our life and even our life itself are the way they are. We don't need to zoom in and see the background because it seems too complicated or basically we just don't need it. But there are times we need it.
If you're living in a country that has a pretty unstable economic past and also at the moment like mine, and if you think there are something working wrong you probably would be interested in economics much more like me. Because my country and our world needs good economists in order to make decisions clearly, at the right time. Having a critical mind is crucial and I really wanna work for the best solution. We know that economics is about learning how to deal with scarcity and maximizing our happiness with scarce resources. We need to sacrifice things in order to have new and better ones. Well, this is an important one because our life quality and our future will be determined by our decisions, our 'yes' and 'no' 's.
We have economy everyhwere, we're just unaware of it most of the time. But if we learn it a bit, the world probably would become somewhere 'less chaotic' I guess. Because we would understand some stuff and maybe have explanations to many questions.
After studying economics, I would like to work in media industry and affect more people in that way. I'm just really excited...
