My mom was incredibly abused, both physically and seggsually, by my grandfather and she was the oldest of 6, so she took extra abuse so her siblings wouldn't have to endure what she was enduring. She was the most beautiful, kind, creative, loving soul I've ever known... and not just to me, she was a teacher, too, and she took an interest in every child that came through her classroom. She was killed by an intimate partner when i was 20. I miss her so much.

My grandpa was a human punching bag growing up. He didn't even get a birthday present until he was 19 years old. It was from his Army buddy while serving in the Korean War. My grandpa went on to become a police officer for 34 years. He wanted to give people the protection and guidance he never had growing up. My grandpa helped a lot of people and I'm very proud of him. My mother & her sister were severely abused as children. My mother became a nurse, bringing NICU babies back from the brink of death. My aunt became dependent on crack, and left my infant cousin alone at home to go score. My mom kicked my aunt’s apartment door in to get to him after the landlord called her complaining about his crying. Both of them attribute their choices and outcomes to their abusive childhoods, go figure.

Idk if Stalin’s first wife dying caused him to be even more ruthless than before. When she died he reportedly threw himself on her casket as they lowered it down. Supposedly, a few friends also prevented Stalin from shooting himself as well after the funeral.

I read this essay on Hitler, where the writer said, that looking at his childhood for some one reason why he became what he became is absurd, because Hitler was not the only one who went through a life like his, on the contrary, there were many, many more who had it worse than Hitler and everybody else.
