I played this with my grandmother all the time and it is a extremely beloved memory of her but about 25-30 years ago. I had forgotten how but wanted to teach my children. Just watching this video has brought me tears of joy. Thank you so very much. You'll never know what this little video meant. Blessed Be

It's kinda crazy how many variants of this there are.
The one I'm familiar with has you "add" to other people's melds on your own side of the board (so they only score for you), and scores are done by counting the values in your melds. 2-9 = 5pt, 10-K = 10pt, A = 15pt, Joker = 25pt;
Cards remaining in your hand are subtracted from your melds.
Also the Ace can be both high and low, forming a loop, so the run KA2 is valid.
Melding your last card doesn't end a round in this variant either, a round can only end on a discard.
Games are usually played to 500 or more

I score by counting everything we put down. Whoever has cards still in their hand you subtract that from whatever you have, you can go negative.

I️ guess we’ve been playing our own special way lol if you’re left with cards in your hand, your number goes negative instead of going to the winner. And if there’s a card in the discard pile that can be played on a meld, we yell rummy, slap the pile, and take that card for points for us. We also allow you to pick up from anywhere in the discard pile but you have to take all the cards on top of the card you pick up from. 🤷🏻‍♀️ still fun!

This was the easiest explanation I have ever seen / heard.

My Mother is teaching me how to play this & Rook. Her rules are different though. You can’t mix different suits when laying cards down, & the point system she taught me is different too. 1-9= 5 points, 10-King= 10 points, & Ace= 15 points. I guess there’s different ways to play. We’re starting a Mother/daughter card night every other week. Great way for us to spend time together & it’s fun.

Thank you for being through. Wanted to check if you can lay off cards without melding, or gain points for non melded cards (both true)

There are some variations of rummy that the ace is high. And there’s this thing called “going around the corner”, when a meld of King-Ace-Deuce (K-A-2) is made.

For 2-player Rummy, you deal 10 cards to each player, similar to Gin Rummy.

I'll be honest, I played this when I was much younger, but the way he explained this didn't bring back memories.

I typed in the title in another language and this popped up, must be a really good tutorial

One thing you forgot to explain is that if you take the top card of the discard pile, you’re not allowed to put the same card back to end your turn; you cannot just leave the discard pile the way it was before.
