Memories are questioned, Arnold gets meta, and cannibals take over the American frontier. These movies were low key gems, but you'd never know it looking at their box office draw.

Whoops! We accidentally put Event Horizon twice, but that's because it's totally worth a rewatch. What other box office bombs are totally worth it?

My husband (then boyfriend) was diagnosed with cancer shortly after Galaxy Quest came out. We had already watched it in theatres three times because we loved it so much. I saw him off to the operating room with "Never give up, never surrender!" He didn't.

The love for Galaxy Quest that turned it into a cult classic grew organically over the years. Even if the studio hyped it when it came out, it still might have taken a while to grow into what it is today. Oh -- and besides Alan Rickman and Sigourney Weaver, you can't forget Sam Rockwell and Tony Shalhoub rounding out the cast. Plus Enrico Colantano and smaller roles by Rainn Wilson, Missy Pyle, and Justin Long.

The Last Action Hero, Galaxy Quest and Iron Giant are all amazing, and some of my all time favorite movies

_Dark City_ was Roger Ebert’s top film of the year, and he even went so far as to provide the commentary tracks on the DVD. Yes, it’s a notoriously underrated science fiction film, but well worth the watch.

I loved galaxy quest. Simultaneously Sci fi while poking fun at actors from Star Trek. The Iron Giant is just simply art. Great art.

No love for Darkman? That film was just so awesome. It was a tribute to Hammer horror icon's, Fantastic action scenes, some Mission Impossible tropes throw in and hilarious humor. Who could forget Neeson hanging from a chopper telling the cops, " Stay away, He is Mine."

Dark City is a masterpiece of sci fi cinema. I'm so happy that I watched it at the theater back in 98'. I actually enjoy this movie much more than the Matrix.

I loved Galaxy Quest, Cool World, and The Rocketeer growing up! I think Cool World was my introduction to Brad Pitt.

Mars Attacks was another movie that got overshadowed by Independence Day back in 1996. Thankfully the movie Mars Attacks is greatly appreciated and knew not to make a tacky sequel that no one asked for.

I’ve always had a warm spot in my heart for Mystery Men. It’s one of the stupidest and at the same time most brilliant adventure films ever. How can you not love lines like “When you can balance a tack hammer on your head, you will head off your foes with a balanced attack.”

Honestly rocketeer always seemed like a fever dream to me. I saw it when I was like 4 and never heard anything about it again. Wasn’t even sure it was real for awhile 😂, but I remember thinking it was super cool!

Ed Wood is genius and shows what Tim Burton could do before he became addicted to CGI and trying to appeal to children, it’s also one of Johnny Depps best roles

I actually saw Galaxy Quest in the theater and thought it was wonderful and lots of fun. Not knowing a lot about marketing, I was quite surprised to see that it didn't last long in the theaters.

Galaxy Quest is still one of my favorites. Born in 74, I came up watching reruns of lost in space/land of the giants etc, so GQ was right up my alley

So many of my favourite movies in one compilation! Wow! May I suggest that Jacob's Ladder be added to your list ? They are notable omissions.

I was very impressed that you included Dark City, The Huducker Proxy (you know, for kids!), Mystery Men and Tank Girl. Those are rarely included in similar lists. Each reinforcing cinema as an artform with their own unique vision.

I love Galaxy Quest, The Iron Giant and Hudsucker Proxy! Such great movies, it's crazy to think they all underperformed.

I never understood the hate for Strange Days. It's been on my top 10 list since it came out. You're right about hard to find though. It took me years to finally track down a DVD copy of it.

I was one of those few people who saw Dark City and Edd Wood in the theaters and loved it. Those were damn good movies.
