How 4 Children Survived 40 Days in Jungle After Plane Crash

Sheer joy as the grandparents of four children lost in the rain forest for 40 days learn they were found alive. The children, aged 13, 9, 4 and a 1-year-old infant, survived a small plane crash in Colombia that took the lives of the adults on board, including their mother. Now, many are wondering how the siblings stayed alive against all odds. Survival expert Shane Hobel showed Inside Edition's Ann Mercogliano how the kids got through the unimaginable ordeal.

I believe that every child should be taught basic survival skills, even if it’s just ‘if you get lost, try to stay in one place and call for help’. It’s absolutely amazing these kids survived that long, along with their 1-year-old sibling. Kudos to those kids, they’re braver than I’ll ever be

Just for context out of all the packages dropped for them, they found just one and they managed it for 15 days. What these kids went through was unbearable but they had the will to survive. Big shout out to the search teams involved for their determination . What a miracle

their parents corpses in that manner for so long without any counselling. Hope they

The mother wasn't immediately killed in the crash. The kids said she died around 4 days after the crash.

We got some true hero’s here! The rescuers, the ones searching on foot and by air, the indigenous trackers and last but not least the children themselves who used their knowledge and wit to get them all out of this mess!
MAJOR PROPS to the 13 & 9 yr old who’s knowledge helped not only keep them alive but the 4 & 1 yr old with them. I’m saddened their mother did not live but she must have been there watching over them none the less in a way we can’t explain those 40days.
I hope time will heal them from such an event and I have a feeling they will have a big community who will stand behind the grandparents to help them pull through this tragedy.
