Nordic Skating: Autumn vs. Spring

The video tells about the difference between the two seasons, autumn and spring, from the point of view of a Nordic skater.

In autumn, the daylight hours are short. At the beginning of a skating season, there is usually not much snow yet, but the conditions change quickly. The ice is thin, smooth on the surface and uniform in structure.

In spring, it is warm in the sun and the day is long. The quality of ice is uneven and there are surface obstacles to trip over. In the video, we skate on the last spring ice that is still quite good for skating.

The autumn trip was carried out in November 2018, and the spring trip was at the end of March 2021.

==============================

Video kertoo kahden vuodenajan, syksyn ja kevään, olosuhteiden erosta retkiluistelijan näkökulmasta.

Syksyllä päivän valoisa aika on lyhyt.

In the northern USA the lakes freeze but then get covered with snow.

Great skating videos! As a Dutch I’m pretty jealous! In the Netherlands we barely have cold winters making skating on natural ice possible. Two weeks ago we had a “hick-up” which resulted in skating on flooded land..😉However, in two weeks I ll be in Sweden, looking forward to it very much…

It was another world of different and rare pastime or sport! Local residents could just find a way to adapt to or even take full advantage to enjoy it.
(When excluding surrounding and atmosphere, would Winter be similar to Autumn for frozen ice as far as temperature was the only concern, I supposed!?)

Wonderful beauty! Do you have circular routes? Or is there a pickup team waiting for you at the end of the route? all routes without night? for one day?

why are you all wearing these heavy backpacks? seems counter intuitive, like okay one or two bringing some supplies for the trip but all seems a bit overkill. would be grateful for an answer.

Suomalaisilla on jopa järvijäätä lämmitetty, jotta lunta ei kerry⛷😊
