another way to load xlsx is to use the files pane at bottom right, browse through where the file is located, click on it to open the window
set parameters and finally copy the little script in the dark pane, cancel and paste it in the editor
this way you don't have to edit the backslash or copy it from explorer

How about making sure the data in a specific column is formatted as text? I.e. to avoid Excel interpreting ‘4-2’ as a date or calculating it as 2?

hi mate, thank u for this. i am getting this error arning message:
package ‘openxlsx’ was built under R version 4.1.1
the other package requires java and somehow it worked once and won't work again

any ideas??
