Hume's Law: The is/ought Gap

The 18th century philosopher David Hume realized that all systems of morals that he had encountered was based upon a logical fallacy. In one way or another, they had derived an 'ought' claim from a descriptive 'is' claim without an explanation of how this is done. This remark has significant effects upon our moral thinking.
