On October 19, 2017, scientists using the Pan-STARRS1 telescope on the island of Maui did not expect to find something important about the universe. On an otherwise normal night of stargazing, they suddenly saw the strangest comet ever seen. Its 87 km per second high speed and highly irregular angle showed that it came from deep space. It was the first known interstellar object ever to enter our solar system. It looked like a cigar and was only 115 m long and 19 m wide, which is small for a comet.
