The U S. once led the world in primary aluminum production with nearly 40 smelters in the early 1990s. Today there are only 4 primary smelters in the U.S. with 2 aluminum producers - ALCOA and Century. In 2022 the US global market share of primary aluminum was 2%. Today roughly half of all aluminum used in the
U S. is imported, mostly from Canada.

Why wouldn’t Americans want manufacturing here in our country? It would create more jobs and unlimited supplies for our country’s safety. I am so glad to see that the CEO of the US's largest aluminum producer is investing in a NEW SMELTER for the first time in this country in 45/50 years. This is SO CRITICAL to this nation and while so many people who are NOT producing aluminum are complaining about the increase in price of aluminum, the man whose company makes the most aluminum in the country says "Nah....it won't go up. It didn't go up last time either." Who do you listen to? Of course THIS guy. This is going to mean so much to this country, especially for National Defense.
