history of the entire world… according to bread | The Food Theorists | History Teacher Reacts

The beloved MatPat loves bread. In fact he says bread has been the driving force of history. He's not wrong either! In this video he breaks down how bread has been the driving force for many major empires. Mr. Terry gets to respond to the history Mat talks about, and add lots of extra history to the story.

Matt (and his wife) are both highly intelligent people with highly competent researchers. I think they'd do pretty good at teaching pretty much any subject.

Matthew has videos that deal with history across all the channels he runs. Food, fashion, cinema, videogames, they all have plenty of history to talk about.

Food Theory definitely has some historical videos, along with the stuff like "figuring out KFC's spice blend." Some more food related history channels are Tasting History with Max Miller, and of course the Townsends

0:37 he is, he’s retiring from YouTube or should I say retiring from the Spotlight on the channels, but as he said in the announcement, he’s leaving on March 9th

As a Theorist, this was a great introduction to your channel and you added a lot of really interesting information! If possible though, can you lower the volume on the videos you're reacting to because it is super hard to hear your comments over whatever the presenter is saying. At points MatPat was drowning you out, and I'm here to hear your commentary.

Bread is known as the Staff of Life for a reason. It’s extremely simple to make the base forms of, it’s loaded with complex carbohydrates for prolonged energy, it lasts far longer than produce or meat does, barring time-consuming preservation methods. It is extremely portable, easy to consume, and can have numerous ingredients added to factor in for pitfalls in nutrition.

Honestly, I'd love to see you react to the Coffee Food Theory

The reason the US army is so strong is food and logistics.

You need food to feed your army, but you need amazing logistics to get that food to your soldiers, and your people.

"Logistics wins wars."

(You can claim the Germans lost WW1 because of poor food logistics).

I never thought bread would be interesting, but that was fantastic

I'd love to see you react to more from the Theorist crew, they do some really great stuff. Since they tend to look at a broad variety of subjects they can sometimes miss the mark, but they're always engaging and passionate.

His announcement video about him leaving said that he is gone in march. The "7 food theories left" thing at the beginning of the video shows how many more hes going to host before he stops hosting

As soon as I watched Matt's video I thought you would've made a reaction about it and I'm so happy you actually ended up doing it!
Amazing video as always!😂

Love from Italy🫶🏻

You should react to the coffee episode. It’s more speculative than the bread episode, but I still find the ideas it proposes fascinating.

MatPat is ALMOST done, I think there are now 6 theories left, at time of the release of your video, on each channel before he passes the torch to others (In March). He is just done as host btw, he and his wive remain active behind the scenes and will make occasional appearances probably mainly on GTLive.

Oh and always remember with MatPat, he is not telling you facts, he is bringing you a theory.... A FOOD THEORY
I show myself the

Another very important advantage of grain is that it's callorically dense. Before advent of modern mechanized agriculture farming was very labor intensive and people working the land had to have highly calloric meals to get them through the day. Bread was both cheap so available to the working masses and callorically dense enough to keep them going through the day of labor. And eating so much bread wasn't as bad as we may think, mainly bc it wasn't the kind of bread we think of. It wasn't white bread, it was whole grain bread which provides much more nutritional value.
That isn't to say eating so much bread wasn't bad for people, but it wasn't nearly as detremental as it would be with modern white bread.
Same thing happend in East Asia where every meal was served with rice. Same thing again happend in Americas where you always had corn.

I love how a lot of things you mention get mentioned later on in the Food Theory video. It's almost like you both know what you're talking about...
