I get at least 5 spam calls a day. It is rediculous. I have definetly noticed it getting worse this year.

This one scammer called me and he told me that I’m in debt to some bank. I’m 12 years old and I don’t even have a bank account lol

I used to mess with them by seeing how long I could keep them on the line. Stuff like giving a made up credit card number and pretending the phone keeps cutting out or saying he had a number wrong when he repeated it back. Long story short, I started getting like 15x more calls

I get at least one scam call an hour. My whole family started getting these when our phone plan ended and we had to sign a new contract to get one. We are convinced that our network provider is selling our numbers.

The problem I find is that I have been receiving calls (which I don't answer) and they happen to have almost the same number as mine. The first 6 digits are the same as my phone number. I can go ahead and block the number, but what good is it if I need to receive an actual call from someone locally. Obviously the robocaller is spoofing the number to make it seem familiar so that I answer it.

So... your steps are.
1. Download an app that claims to stop robocalls while it actively sells your number to said robocallers.
2. Put your number on a list which is the other best resource that spam callers can use. How convenient that we all put our number on a single list for these people.
3. Ask your carrier if you can pay more money for them to do a service they should be doing for free.

Don't answer calls from numbers you don't know.

If I'm correct I believe TruCaller collects your phone number and your phones contacts and can then do what they please with it, like sell it to tellemarkers!

Google's beta phone app for Android now has this feature built in natively. You just check an option that says "Filter suspected spam calls" and it will no longer allow spam calls to ring your phone. They still show up in call history as a missed call though so you can see how much it's happening, and unblock numbers that should not have been marked as spam.

Not only are the fake calls spoofing area codes, they're spoofing your *prefix* as well (the second group of three digits, which, in the days before computer-controlled phone back-ends, identified the exact telephone company local office your phone connected to) so it looks *VERY* local.

Funny thing is, I know nobody with my same area code _and_ prefix. Makes it *REALLY* easy to just ignore those calls.

Why isn’t the government implementing spam caller rules for consumers?

These calls are so dangerous that anything can happen. Your voice can be used for identity theft purposes and hackers may want to steal your information. Ignore the calls or download apps to protect yourself.

So who else thinks these apps he suggested in the beginning are also a scam to sell your info/number? The apps need to have access to you phone app on your smartphone so I am mostly skeptical.

These apps and blocking numbers is total bullshit. Here's why... When the inbound caller ID is spoofed, it's often done so ONCE, using a randomized legitimate local number. Blocking it does nothing to stop same scammer from calling again with a slightly different number. What's worse, is by blocking a legitimate local number, you've now condemned the owner of that number - and when he tries to call others, he's number is falsely blocked. By spoofing random local number, the scammers accomplish two things - they get you to answer, and the render spam blacklisted databases useless because they start to amass too many legitimate numbers.

The only fix is to block all CID spoofing. Unfortunately, there are too many legacy PBX systems which legitimately require spoofing to operate correctly.

Do these stop the call or do they send the caller to voicemail? I have a Private caller and can not block them. It will send the call to voicemail and I want the call to me stopped before it gets sent to my phone.
