It is really smart to play along with that "user made history". The player get the feeling that what he does actually matter. Event and stories are generated just by gamers playing the game. Also by finally letting the creekers liberate Malevelon Creek, they basically closed the chapter on that planet and creekers will finally join other planets. Well until Malevelon falls again.

Who would have thought... If you make a live service game that is ACTUALLY live service, people will play your game!!!

They didn't plan the Creek, but they clearly understand how a D&D campaign works. It's collaborative storytelling. Sometimes your players do amazing unexpected things with your story and sometimes... well... you wind up with the Dread Gazebo. (If you're not familiar with the Dread Gazebo look it up. Shit's legendary.) The sign of a good DM is that they know how to roll with whatever the players contribute without letting it completely break the story. Arrowhead seems to be making that happen.

"a small gesture that goes a long way".

Nailed it. Triple A games wouldn't dream of doing something like this without monetising it. Arrowhead Devs are legends 💪

The best side of this cape thing is, as you said this was not planned.
They decided to do this after they witnessed whole malevelon creek story!

This company feels like 2004-2012ish of AAA gaming it makes me have that Halo, COD MW1, 2, 3, and Starwars feeling era. Really enjoying this game and the community 😊

Deep Rock Galactic has always been amazing with their community and changes. This mirrors that feeling heavily.

I hate the live service model or at least how every other game has implemented it. Helldivers 2 has been the exception so far by using utilizing it to actually enhance the game instead of just selling us stuff in some way the preys on a players FOMO

THIS IS WHY WE LOVE THE CREEK. Community storylines are so much cooler than just doing what you’re told 24/7.

Arrowhead has always been cool about doing right by the players. In the first game the one of the best primary weapons (the trident) was given out for free as a 1 year anniversary. Also I know the game doesn't need another shotgun but I really hope we get the trident again maybe as a 1 year anniversary gift. For those that don't know the trident was like the sickle but slower fire rate and multiple lasers as kind of a buckshot, it was pretty nice and a staple of no resupply loadouts (you used to have to pick resupply as a stratagem and people had loadouts that were ammo-less)

I bought the game for 40, loved it, upgraded to the deluxe for 20 more, then later spent 20 more to own every skin in the store lol. Game of the Year!

The Creekers now have an official uniform! I can't wait for the community to start using the cape in fanart!

Just got the memorial cape toady. The feeling is great. Seems it's the only game that ever gave me this kind of pride. The horrifying creek becomes a fond memory.

500, 000+ proud helldivers gave their lives for the liberation of the Creek so that we may live in a better tomorrow. Liberty bless them!

Reminds me of the massive growth League of Legends had in those early years. We were getting new champions, items and "stat tweaks" via patches every other week.

While It was amazing and set the bar really high for live service games.. it did create a lot of issues later with power creep. RIOT started reworking champs to be more unique (rather than stat upgrades) and push content patches out a bit longer. Leaving the biggest ones for the end of the year/start of the new "season".

It'll be interesting to see how Helldivers addresses these issues going forward.

It's nice to see they are trying to listen to the community, if they keep at it it will only get better. I love when they release new stuff without warning as well.

I really appreciate you making this video. It's easy to bash on games, but you are right this is a game where the dev's are doing community right. It is organic, it is genuine, and it's not a blatant cash grab. Although i really hope they do add more armors and things to buy because I do want to support this game! I haven't felt that same way about a game company since the early days of Apex.

Sometimes you jump into games where nobody knows wth they're doing and it's a slog.

But every once in a while, you get a group of randos that are just locked in, and you just WRECK everything.

It's a profound feeling.
