Unbelievable Beekeeping Hack: Feed Your Bees THIS in Spring! As we start to get a couple weeks of high 50’s and 60’s I like to take advantage of the warmer weather and you should too! In this video you can see the differences in how to feed large colonies vs the smaller colonies.

Some important information that I didn’t mention in the video is that I hefted all of the colonies and they each have a minimum of 20-30 pounds of reserves remaining. This is important for two reasons. The first reason is if the colony was extremely light let’s say maybe 10-20 pounds or less then I would want to make 2:1 syrup so they store the syrup in an emergency feed. The second case, which is in this video, the 1:1 will be used on colonies with reserves so they can use it “hand to mouth feeding”. Referring to the bees taking the sugar syrup stimulant and directly using it is rather than storing it.

BONUS TIP: Doing the 1:1 will allow your bees to build up on the syrup (use it) you are providing them instead of the reserves they still have in the colony if there was a cold snap!

Thanks for watching/reading and if you haven’t already go check out the first video I made on the importance of early pollen pattie stimulation!

One of the advantages of Russians is that I don't have to get them going so early in the spring because they need natural pollen to get brooding up. Dandy lion flow is my mark to get working them here in New Hampshire. Fortunately they catch up for me. Nice that you get out and get going never the less! Thanks for sharing Bro!!!

Depending on where people live, they need to be careful feeding spring syrup because if temperatures drop with all that moisture in the hive you could have condensation issues that'll kill the colony in a hurry. Best rule of thumb is not to feed until night time lows are fairly steady around 40 degrees in my area.
