The warden doesn't give you the blindness effect, it will give you a new effect called 'darkness'. It's similar but darkness blocks more of your vision

the Warden really does add horror to the game... i was in CREATIVE mode and was trying to observe the warden's behavior and what spawned it etc, and I was so on edge even though I couldn't die... its creepy

Theory: Sculk is something special it’s not just another dimension to be explored, it’s a creature of its own. The sculk only spreads when creatures or entities are killed near it, and it converts the blocks into sculk. Suggesting it feeds on the life force (Exp of other mobs). There is no doubt in my mind that it’s from another dimension however this substance is not just existing in the overworld. It is consuming the overworld, this dimension in essential slowly hunting and killing the overworld. It is a parasitic realm seeking to spread and ingulf our own, and like most living things it has a means to defend itself aka the Warden. The Warden is merely the sculks self-defense mechanism and a form of feeding itself. The souls in in its chest are the mobs the sculk consumes, reused into a type of energy that gives life to the warden. Now although this is all very scary there is one important thing to keep in mind. To the luck of the overworld these sculk growths appeared underground in caves places were there is very little to feed its growth. It would take a long period of time for sculk to spread to from a cave system to the surface. This does present players with the opportunity to find these sculk breaches and eliminate them. That is if they can bring down the warden first…. (Sorry about all the text I get really into this stuff o-0).

I'd also suggest bringing some observers and bells (if you have the resources for it). When a bell is constantly activated by an observer clock, it makes a perfect distraction for the warden. Then you could sneak to it, dig it down as shown in the video, break the bell and retreat as fast as you can.

I decided to see the deep dark for myself in creative
Due to immortality induced overconfidence, I didn't give myself night vision to see how the area would look like in creative
I spawned in the warden, but it was just lumbering around the ancient city

So I decided to anger it.

And I cannot stress enough on how scary it is when it starts chasing you. The way it appears to walk with a sort of limp, but is still fast with it's head moving side to side. That alone is scarier than any horror movie I have or ever will watch in my entire life

few things missing: the hitbox of the warden shows that it can fit to 1 block wide areas unlike golems, and the subtitles for the 3 shrieks are : 1. "Warden approaches" 2. "Warden advances" and 3. "Warden draws close" so watch out for those.

I have a suggestion for you, for when you record the "raiding an ancient city" video. If you set your spawn point near the ancient city and store your valuable gear, drink a night vision potion and a speed potion, equip a hoe and maybe some totems, and then run around the ancient city like crazy, destroying any shriekers/sensors you trigger in the way: do you think the wardens will be able to reach you and kill you, before you free the city from all the shriekers? Because if you can destroy all shriekers before the warden kills you, you'll be able to freely explore the city after the wardens despawn, without having to bother with wool and sneaking. I don't know if it would work, though.

EDIT: I tried this in the snapshot, and it didnt work because the darkness effect messes things up a lot, and I couln't see where I was running into, and I ended up running into a warden and dying. What I did yesterday was, slowly and steady, with lots of potions of night vision, destroyed the shriekers and the sensors, to prevent the warden from spawning. And when it did spawn, I'd just ender pearl away and wait for a minute until it despawned. Took a long time, but I managed to clear a funn ancient city from all shriekers.

I like how most people say "the warden" altough there are multiple wardens buried in the ground, just waiting to something to make noise

For anyone raiding an ancient city with wool:
If you land on the edge of a wool block it will trigger any sculk sensors because the game thinks you landed on the adjacent block. All you have to do is sneak when landing on the edge of wool and it won't trigger any sensors. (You will see this if you try to climb a staircase of wool with sensors around)

I like how strong this thing is. I’ve been immortal in my full Netherite for far too long, I desire a challenge.

Just defeated three yesterday, it's actually very very easy if you have more than one person; one person needs to be up on a pillar very high and away so that the ranged attack can't reach them, then they shoot the warden with a bow. Then, any other players can just run up and hit the warden with swords and the warden won't attack them because it is aggressive toward the bow player. Seems like they should adjust this so it realizes it can't hit the blow player and would then attack the sword players

I'd say bring like a stack of wool or 3 to the ancient city. Placing wool near sensors and shreikers and then removing them will be a viable option to get rid of them. However if the warden gets summoned, I'd say run far from the warden, find a wall or dig down, and then cover yourself with wool. If you run away successfully, you should be safe for a while.

I have been doing some tests, and it is possible to defeat the Warden in a melee fight. Do note that it's more like a personal achievment, otherwise is better to just avoid the Warden, is not worth it:

1- Full netherite armor, enchanted with Protection IV.
2- Netherite Sword, enchanted with Sharpness V.
3- Potion of Turtle Master II (this is the most important part), potion of Strenght II and potion of Regen II or a gold apple (optional).
4- Totem of Undying, just in case (shields are useless against it).

The metod is quite simple: while the Warden is spawning, get close, drink the potions and attack relentlessly, do all the crits you can. Netherite equipment and Turtle Master allows you to tank the hits and survive, and Strenght II gives you enough damage to kill it quickly. Do not try to flee, you can't because of the TM potion and even if you do, the Warden's sonic blast bypass your armor, it must be a close and quick fight.

I think the warden is perfect difficulty-wise. This opinion is coming from the seemingly rare person that likes stealth games. If it was easy to cheese/kill then it would take away the sense of danger it's supposed to portray. What do you think?

I love the warden, it adds something new and interesting to the game and the lore, even if it does absolutely terrify me. I also like the theories about the warden being related to axolotls which are also blind and lives in caves, although the warden doesn't look much like a salamander.
I wonder though since it's blind why we get darkness and not blindness, and if it would still dig into the ground if somehow suspended in the air. (maybe it'd get scared lol like toph being uncomfortable if she's not on solid ground or made to wear shoes, since then she can't feel the vibrations through the ground to "see")

How to completely avoid the Warden:

1. Find a Sculk Shrieker.
2. Prepare a hoe.
3. Destroy Sculk Shrieker without alerting it.
4. No Warden!
