Four siblings between the ages of 13 and three years, had to drop out of school to take care of their bedridden mother in Ntabankulu in the Eastern Cape. A concerned teacher from Qiphu Primary School noticed that all the siblings did not return to school for the third term.

When she visited their household she found unpleasant living conditions that the children had to live under. SABC reporter Nkululeko Nyembezi visited the family and filed this report

That is why the Department of Education must hire social workers who are trained to detect these social problems and intervene accordingly.
