As a veteran of the film industry (30+yrs and counting) who shoots live shows as a hobby, your comment about Film School made me smile, I hear this all the time. Film School gives you access to kit you wouldn't be able to get experience on otherwise, but nothing beats blagging your way onto a crew and learning on set. And no, there's no "in", you need to know someone who will give you an intern/runner spot or you have to force your way in. Be cheerful, useful and punctual, have a car and be prepared to work 14hrs+ and focus on where you want to be and you'll fit right in, we're Circus People and we look out for each other.
