Crime soars during South Africa's rolling power blackouts

Some South Africans are being forced to patrol their own streets as criminals use the country's rolling blackouts as cover to pick off their victims.

It is said that a civilization collapses slowly -- then all at once. South Africa should be a cautionary tale -- but it won't be. Too many uncomfortable truths would have to be revealed. And dealt with.

I toured SA in 2006, including a tour of SEWETO, even then I could tell the country was going to fall apart. Certainly not a place for any investment, its taken longer than I thought it would, but its now inevitable.

Funny thing is south africans are not legally allowed to go completely off the electricity grid and on full solar power.
