Defacement - Duality [official single]

With an inception going back to 2019, Defacement rapidly gained momentum within the underground realms with two full-length records marked by an intense and experimental take on death and black metal, Deviant (2019) and self-titled Defacement (2021). Three long years after their latest output, the international band flares its cryptic head yet again with an epic tome of twisted and gnarly emanations, an immersive pathway into the void entitled Duality.

Gabriele Gramaglia (Cosmic Putrefaction, Vertebra Atlantis) and Simon Da Silva (Aversio Humanitatis) took care respectively of the mixing and mastering.

This is the title-track from the album, which will be released on CD, LP and digital via Avantgarde Music's Unorthodox Emanations on July 26th, 2024, with a North American vinyl version in collaboration with Total Dissonance Worship.

I love music that scares the shit out of me. This entire album is just incredible. It’s like a cosmic horror trip through the darkest parts of the universe with moments of tranquility and chaotic beauty. The end to this song sent me into a trance and had me in the verge of tears.

Amazing single. The sparing but wonderful melodies at the song's conclusion, after pulverizing the listener for 14 minutes, are like the moments of lucidity that finish an episode of insomnia.

How the fuck they manage to hold my attention and keep the tension and pummeling atmosphere coming for 16+ minutes is beyond me. Quite hostile, not easy to listen to. But if you have your ears trained, this is an impressive work. Balanced, smoothly drives you through uncomfortable atmospheres, while It keeps you hooked in almost every single variation.
