How much does a grass fed cow eat?

Calculating how much feed your cows need works whether they are on pasture or in a barn. Calculating how much your whole herd needs will tell you how much pasture they will need or how much hay to put up for winter.

There is tons of online grazing resources Charlie, just type in cow/calf pair pasture needs.  if you have moderately framed cows I could guess they weigh 1200lbs and calves weighing 500lbs.? 1200 x 3% x 8 = 36 x 8 = 288lbs of DM  5 calves = 75lbs DM  so 288+75 =363lbs of dry feed per day potentially.  calves will eat less cause they are nursing.  Couldn't speculate on how your pastures are with the range cubes.  Your probably an excellent manager so all is good.  Thanks for watching. QUESTION: In the hot and humid Amazon Forest, the predominant bovine is the Cebu (originally from the Asian Sub Continent), could this, or any cow, be fed only (or mainly) indoor- grown micro-green type grasses (combinations of oats, rye, barley, etc … ) … In light of the devastation to the Amazon, can it be a sustainable way of raising healthy cattle? I have eight cows 5 with calves + 3 pregnant I still have plenty of grass but I feed 50 pounds of range cubes per day is that enough

Remember he said 3% dry matter. If the water content of pasture is 50% then they are going to eat dubbel that of your pasture. If water content is 2/3, 66% then three times that.
