Food truck looks like a better option if you're gonna sell sandwiches. You could even just rent out the truck, so no big investment needed.

Good on you man. Just do your own thing. A whole restaurant or truck is... A lot. Gotta truly be excited and passionate to do it to make it work.

Can't forget about labor costs, rent/mortgage, taxes and bills, utensils and appliances, building a customer base, design and renovations, maintenance, health codes and laws you have to follow, policies to implement so you don't get taken advantage of, and tons of other stuff. If it was easy, everyone would do it. Most restaurants and businesses in general fail, because people don't take into account the hardships they'll have to go through to actually start turning a profit.

Honestly, a very thoughtful response to the suggestion. I applaud your self-understanding and appreciation of what it means to undertake such an endevour. If you ever think you could, I'd love to see it, but I'm the meantime, keep doing what you do.

What about a food truck? It's a smaller, less stressful scale, probably a lot cheaper, and it's portable, so you can travel.

Dude you absolutely nailed that statement about restaurants. The chance of a restaurant surviving relies on so many factors.

As someone who worked in a restaurant for a while doing a lot of different positions (bus, dish, service bartending, expo, line cook, fry cook, serving, host….
I see how extremely difficult it is to open a successful restaurant. Low profit due to such high expenses and maintenance costs, also it’s superrrr high maintenance. And unfortunately location seems to be extremely important.

Most small businesses fail within the first YEAR and the ones that fail the hardest are restaurants, and they fail because of the reason you mentioned.

Honestly, you’re better off doing with somebody else already suggested and that was getting a running a food truck. That’s easier

As a new restaurant owner/manager, it's not a terrible idea, it's a horrible idea. Makes your life busier than ever. 10/10 recommended

If you do, try to minimize your debts starting out. Also, simplify your menu and streamline prep.

Restaurants are hot, sweaty tornadoes of constantly changing priorities and rotating staff.

And BOH doesn’t get paid enough.

I had the same conversation with my roommate. He was like "no I'm dead serious, you're an amazing cook, you NEED to open a restaurant" and I was like, my guy, the person who owns the restaurant does a LOT more than cook..

Plus if you did, HACPOA would take it down immediately

Edit: thanks for all the likes! <3

exactly!! my family always says I should try a cooking career. but the reason I cook is because I love it & it relaxes me. if it was a job it would be stressful & that would suck all the fun out of it

This is very true, making tasty food is the easy part.

Usually restaurants that do primarily grilled cheeses pop up and shut down not long after. It’s a good food with a lot of versatility, but really can’t pull in the customer base you’d need to sustain a storefront. You could probably put together a cook book of all your recipes you deem successful one day, and I’d buy it from an online store

To be honest, I get kind of tired of people recommending this to every food YouTuber.

It is NOT a small task, and you'd probably be too busy to post videos anyway. And you're right, most of your viewers would probably never visit (no fault of their own! It's just that travel is a luxury of time and money).

It sounds like it's not for you, and it's good to recognize that. I totally relate to you. I enjoy cooking (when I'm feeling well and it's not 105+ outside), but oh my god no, I would not work in a restaurant. I would grow to hate cooking. Like you, I mainly enjoy cooking for myself because it's less pressure.

I think people have to understand, cooking is just a passion for some people. That means profit, or a business isn't always the end goal. Maybe selling his recipes, or a cookbook. But I completely understand not all talents have to end in a $

The hardest part of owning a business/company has so much to explain, fist reason is that you would have so much permits and licenses you would have to own, second is the losses. Whenever you or another place gets robbed or gets like a very bad disaster, you are the one responsible for it. Third is because of all the equipment. These are some: Security Cameras, a food station, the POS machine (which is expensive) and the banking and others. Fourth is the place, the place is gonna be the most expensive thing about owning a restaurant. If you save money and buy a old one, you still have to pay for the repairs. Fifth is the staff. If you dont get a good revenue, you cant pay their salary. Sixth is the security. The security cameras which are good cost not THAT much but it is still money. The NVRs cost alot. Seventh is the web. If you are managing a business, you may need a website. And also the IT team has to be good. And also the software like the employee portal for like things that you have stock in for the website, the website will need a very good IT team to manage the website nicely, and also the domain. The domains cost like around 20 dollars ish. The employees will also need a seperate email registered under your businesses name. This is just half of the things you need to run a business.

i see a lot of foodtubers releasing cookbooks nowadays, it’s a pretty decent middle ground for having people being able to enjoy your food while not having that risk of having a restaurant
