What are your thoughts on Segundo Barrio or El Paso in general?

I've always felt safe when in Segundo Barrio, and 100% feel and see the history of the neighborhood. People tend to fear the unknown, thanks for trying to dispel the fear for some folks and actively being a good ambassador for our city.

Thank you for raising awareness that neighborhoods without economic wealth do not automatically mean your safety is at risk. Often, as you say these communities are rich in human wealth. Glad to be a subscriber.

Very interesting...thank you!
I always enjoy learning something every day.
I've found that the people of El Paso are very warm, helpful and friendly. I've been to some upscale neighborhoods and people snub you and don't smile back...or would walk by if you were hurt. The people make the town.😊

I moved to El Paso in 2013 from South Korea while serving in the US Army and have been here ever since! Coming from New York City, it was definitely a culture shock, especially since I hadn’t experienced the Latino or Hispanic community before. However, I can confidently say that El Paso is the safest place I’ve been stationed or lived in during my service to this great nation. The residents here are the friendliest and most polite people I’ve encountered since 2003. If you enjoy Mexican and Latino food and culture, I highly recommend visiting and experiencing it for yourself! While there is some crime, like in any other city, it’s generally safe to walk around both day and night. Plus, home prices are lower, and rent for apartments is quite affordable.

Lived in El Paso for the last 14 years. Retired Old White Guy. Regularly visit Segundo Barrio (and Kentucky Club across the creek!) and, yes, Natalia's is a great place to eat! What is sad, are those visiting El Paso who get irritated that people on the street, wait staff, dining customers are speaking Spanish. They get all wadded up and start wrinkling their nose, sometimes saying VERY hurtful things and make a scene. I can go all day at times doing errands (bank, grocery store, Dog park, etc) and not hear much English till my wife gets home. Folks, if you're coming to The Pass, relax! Enjoy. We've been voted 'Most Safest City' over a half-mil population many times since I arrived. I've never once felt unsafe ANYwhere in this city.

I lived in the segundo barro. When I was very little we never had trouble leaving there. We felt safe playing outside our apartments

I am visiting from Brooklyn NY. I was at a restaurant and asked the waitress where she was from and twice with lots of pride and a smile she said "I'm from El Segundo!". I smiled and returned home to look for Segundo on a map of Mexico and could not find it. So, I will be visiting Segundo during my stay here in beautiful El Paso.

Me and my wife have been frequently visiting El Paso for the last 15 years from Alamogordo. It’s like our second home. We love San Jacinto Plaza and the surrounding downtown neighborhoods. We’ve walked them and never felt unsafe. We’ve found ourselves feeling more welcome and safe than we have in any other major city. El Paso is beautiful and rich in our culture and carries so much pride for the Mexican/Hispanic Culture. It’s home away from home!

El Paso, Texas 💯 grew up in Segundo, Sun Set Heights and RAISED IN THE LOWER VALLEY💯😎. GREAT VIDEO ‼️downtown looks so empty now compared to when I was a kid. Them side walks would be packed with people in downtown.

My wife and I have lived here on and off for the last 30 plus years (here now non-stop since 2010) and we love it more than ever. This town has seen lots of growth in the time we've been here and has really nice people, amazing food, and is very safe. Of course there are exceptions but fortunately the good far outweighs anything negative. Thank you El Paso for adopting us into this city that we now call home!!
