I had a sheltie when I was younger. He was the best dog I've ever had. He was the runt of the litter. I'm a sucker for the underdog. But let me tell you, way smarter than me! Fortunately, he did not contest my authority. He was perfectly happy being my 2nd in command. I loved him so much! He lived to be just under 16 yrs. I will never forget him!

As a Sheltie dad that lost their fur baby recently this year, I can certainly say that they really are one of the best family dogs. My boy gave me 15 years of love and care before he passed in January and I will never forget my precious sable boy

We have had 4 Shelties in my family. Two were my parents, growing up. Two my own families. The dog I bought for my sons 9th birthday used to bark when I sang the song to him . "How much is that doggy in the window." at the appropriate time. To teach him I used to open & shut my hand. They are wonderful dogs & not all are barkers. You teach them not to bark when it's not necessary.
That dog went everywhere with my son. from skate board parks, in his canoe on the river, to jumping in the river after him from 6 ft heights. What I liked about them was their temperament & the fact they never smelled as many dogs do.
What I didn't like was the hair shedding. LOL That was easily overcome with daily grooming & a powerful vacuum with a roller brush.
If I wasn't so old 76, I'd have another sheltie today.

Is that a pure-bred Sheltie? Its coat seemed lacking in volume & the ruff quite sparse. Still a beautiful dog.
Our dogs were never of show dog quality. Though they looked like show dogs markings, coat & ruff volume, they were far too big to qualify. That was our choice, we wanted a pet not a show piece. If you want a Sheltie the size of a border collie pay attention to the paw size of the pup on first visit to a breeder, their paw size will be larger than its siblings. These are the dogs that are good for pets & they are sturdier than the small show dogs.

Shelties are absolutely fantastic. My boy Samwise turned a year old last month. He's my third Sheltie, and undoubtedly the smartest by far. He's also bizarrely outgoing. Kids in particular are his favorite. The little guy is bursting with personality!

If you get a Sheltie, be prepared to not get an animal, but rather a toddler with four wheel drive, no thumbs, and a body hair problem. They are little fluffly geniuses - absolutely incredible breed!

Your grooming videos are amazing. <3 My kitty Reepicheep was just diagnosed with diabetes, and she'd been feeling so poorly she couldn't really groom herself, so she got a bath yesterday and I used all your tricks. Homemade happy hoodie made out of a sock (she has a small head), and she even let my blow dry her while she was sitting on my lap. Your vids are so fun and educational, and they really helped me with her.
