I always use an 8 weight for bass so i can throw big flies without issues. Honestly gotta give you props for tossing massive flies with 4wt line

When you're fishing big flies like that with heavy weights I wouldn't go any lower in diameter than 2x you'll save a lot of money

I can't say I've ever seen a spotted bass caught on a fly before.

I see you are an experienced fisherman but one thing I see a lot of is fisherman bouncing fish on the shore or on their boats. this can cause the fish to become more susceptible to disease and parasites due to the outside layers of slime being scraped off or damage done by debris. The outside layers of slime on fish is actually a large part of their immune system and damaging these layers again can open the fish up to illness among other dangers. Once I learned this I began lipping my fish, using soft catch and release nets or holding them from below. Obviously this can't always be achieved but I try to give this information out so when possible, fisherman will do their best to keep from harming the layers of slime on their catch. thanks for listening and for your awesome content.
