I wonder if some of these check dams have been raised, perhaps several times, as the silting process progresses? The point being is to increase the retention value of the silt field: i.e. extend the field further & further, back up the wadis to create a more extensive planting opportunity.

wonder how much strategic blasting has been done to fill ravines with boulders and accomplish the same thing at key points along a wash?

Doesn't the water just flow through the rocks or does it store water on the uphill side?

Does silt have any use for anything? Filtering?

but it's clay that's waterproof?.. i'm assuming they did a study that says that water will be able to be stored in that area. :/
