The reason why so many are diagnosed now, it's because of the Internet. Now people can see others with adhd on the Internet, learn that it is a thing, realized they have the same issues and go and have an diagnose from the doctor, to find out that they had it. The reason is that it has been underdiagnosed for so long and now have to catch up

Many people also dont realize that the increase in diagnosis also tends to correlate with increase in awareness. More parents and undiagnosed adults are now learning what ADHD is and looks like. I had so many misconceptions about ADHD. I thought it was something hyperactive little boys had. I started learning about symptoms through social media shorts, started to relate a little too much and that triggered my diagnostic journey. I got a screening from my therapist which came back for ADHD inattentive type. Eventually, I scheduled a full neurodevelopmental evaluation with a specialist and they found the same thing. This happened at age 26. If it wasn't for educational platforms on ADHD (and silly Tiktok videos) I probably would have continued to struggle without diagnosis and treatment.

The joke of turning a farm into an amusement park is a symptom of the problem. One of the reasons of rising diagnosis is that girls have inattentive ADHD (ADD) more often. As someone with ADD (male btw(diagnosed in 30s)) I would probably be sitting in the rocking chair, not doing something that needs to be done on the farm. It's disappointing to hear two "specialist professionals" reveal their bias built on the same stereotypes that have been damaging recognition for inattentive ADHD, eversince ADD was put into ADHD everyone just seems to look for the H. 😞

I wouldnt be able to be sat reading a book, but i wouldnt be able to make it into an amusement park either - that requires the ability to finish a project. If I were sent to the farm, at the end of 2 weeks you would find me lying on the porch in a state of mental paralysis surrounded by a bunch of half finished projects. I would have half a play about farm life, one of the animals would have a half knitted hat, there would be a string of bunting and a plan for the most amazing amusement park, but not a plan good enough to actually start building. Hence mental paralysis.

Except that’s not how it works for women. If I like the book I can read for hours, but if I’m interrupted I’ll probably put the book down somewhere and lose it, then pace around the house for 3 hours. Then I will forget I was ever reading the book. Ya see? It’s not so cut and dry.

OH MY GOODNESS! I've struggled my whole life, being fired from jobs for careless mistakes and thinking I just don't function like everyone else and thus am doomed to fail at everything. *Two years ago I moved to a farm and now have three flower garden plots that feed my new florist shop (self taught), and one is opening as a "You Pick" adventure with picnics, that I'm being HOUNDED with interest for, by locals.* hahaha.

I was diagnosed with ADHD in 1987 or so. Thepughout the years, mostly untreated, but at various times, treated with stimulants. Now I can't get stimulants because of my age. I tried clonidine patches, but developed an itchy rash after a couple months. It would itch for 6 weeks after I took off the patch. I withdrew from it over 12 days to avoid high blood pressure rebound. It helped quite a bit with anxiety, and it's easier to stay on track when you are not worried. Also it helped me break with a minor OCD.
Now I will try to address my ADHD with meditation, and maybe with a plant based diet. ADHD is a pain in the butt.
I see people, and recognize ADHD behavior, coping or not.

adhd is "overdiagnosed" in the same way that "all the kids are gay and trans." increased awareness = more people doing self reflection and exploration of possibilities which means people who would go undiagnosed in the past are catching up.

there aren't "more" ADHD people or queer people all of a sudden. there's actually the same amount as there has always been, we were just undiagnosed and closeted and questioning in the past.

Also. Whether it's biological or environmental, if the symptoms are the same. The symptoms are the same.

Man farm work is the only time I can hyperfocus on some sort of work the dopamine rush I get from something as simple as mucking a stall is so nice

Yeah, I have inattentive symptoms with adhd. I can potentially sit around not doing much of anything, though I would be fidgeting, but the real test is if I can focus on a job I've been given. That's a lot tougher.

The hyperactivity portion of adhd seems to be what even experts recognize as "true adhd", but attention regulation is what I struggle with, less so hyperactivity.

I wouldn’t be reading a book but rocking in that chair to calm my anxiety from being put on a farm for two weeks with no detailed instructions in what you want to be done. Literally paralyzed in anxiety.

What does it mean if your reading 3 books of vaguely similar subject matter at the same time: Cross referencing them, taking notes in different colored ink based on a random scale to be forgotten later. Not for work or school, but something that caught your interest in a book store 2 years ago that you just found when looking under your bed for a pencil sharpener? Asking for a friend 😊

how are people being "overdiagnosed" or "misdiagnosed" when it takes months or even years of work to reach a diagnosis on the neurodivergency spectrums

I experience the Vermont effect at home everyday. The most productive time of my day is when my phone is recharging 😅. I suddenly find so many cleaning and cooking and organising projects that need attention and i must say i do complete them...

Very true- I missed my high school due being middle child and overlooked- to point was sent to a special behavior modification program in Mexico- kidnapped feom bed middle of the night- once finally a very intelligent Dr. Put it together- graduated- college graduate and so on- yet missed so many years from being overlooked/ which is what it is- if there was a time warp- I would already have my PhD- identification is crucial ❤

I'm diagnosed and think that the farm analogy is ok but not 100% accurate. For me personally I'd do work, then relax and build something fun. I only really want to do work when I want to do it, not when I'm forced. I can do work well, but only if I am willing to do it and not being forced to do it immediately, so homework is definitely a struggle for me. But yard work is usually fun because it's outside and not repetitive usually.

Vermont test sounds good! I'd repair everything on that farm. 😂
