IMHO. I think she took Eddie's passing really hard. It was obvious he is her one true love as someone else mentioned on here. I think it would be hard to stay married if your spouse is in love with someone else. Deceased or not. She may have known it might be best to leave. But this is just my opinion of what may have happened. Wishing both of them healing and happiness.

If people haven't read the book, it insinuates what was happening. Eddie and she got close again, Janie & Eddie separated and in the end it was just Wolfie, Eddie and Val. I think that's when Val realized Eddie was her one true love and Tom probably felt in the way, or knew it was true all along. Nobody give her heck about divorce or stepping on Janie's toes. It was clear Eddie and Val only ever deeply loved each other.

she reminds me of my father with my mother. My parents divorced when I was 15. It nearly destroyed me. They were married 27 yrs when my mother left him and divorced him. He remarried, she remarried. On her deathbed she told me to tell my dad that she wished she'd have never left him because he was the only man that truly loved her. 9 yrs later when he was dying he was calling out for my mother before he died. I understand her love for Eddie. Eddie is in the care of the Lord. Valerie deserves happiness. She's been given a blessed life but she's also been put through a lot. Love her

I greatly admire Valerie on so many levels. I admire her having an amicable divorce from Eddie Van Halen. While there are people you love with all your heart, sometimes you can't be married to them for whatever reason. Despite their differences, they remained good friends which in the end, was much healthier for Wolfie. I never knew about the trauma her mother and father suffered losing their little boy--just heartbreaking. And I can so relate to the unhealthy relationship you grow up with in Italian families. You eat when you're happy, when you're sad--any celebration or occasion in your life centers around food. She is such a strong, confident, loving and caring person that it does my heart good to see her learning to love herself.
