An Unbalanced Perspective: Rahul Kanwal's Glorification of PM Modi
In the world of journalism, objectivity and unbiased reporting are essential to inform and educate the public. Unfortunately, there are instances where journalists fall short of these standards, instead resorting to glorification and favouritism. One such example is Rahul Kanwal, a journalist associated with India Today, who has been accused of shamelessly glorifying Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This critique aims to shed light on the imbalanced perspective Kanwal often displays, compromising the integrity of his journalistic endeavours.
Lack of Objectivity: A fundamental requirement of journalism is to present an objective view of events, ensuring that multiple perspectives are explored and analysed. However, Kanwal's reporting often appears to lack this critical element. His coverage of Prime Minister Modi tends to be overwhelmingly positive, neglecting to critically examine policies, decisions, and their impact on the common populace. This one-sided approach is not conducive to fostering a healthy democratic discourse.
Selective Reporting: A hallmark of balanced journalism is the inclusion of diverse voices and opinions. Regrettably, Kanwal often fails to provide a comprehensive analysis, focusing solely on showcasing the achievements and success stories of PM Modi. This selective reporting undermines the public's ability to form a nuanced understanding of the government's performance and policy implementation.
Absence of Scrutiny: One of the primary responsibilities of journalists is to hold those in power accountable. However, Kanwal's coverage seems to fall short in this regard, as he rarely subjects Prime Minister Modi to rigorous scrutiny. Journalists must act as watchdogs, questioning decisions, highlighting potential flaws, and investigating allegations of misconduct. By failing to fulfil this critical role, Kanwal risks perpetuating a cult of personality around the prime minister and eroding the very foundation of a healthy democracy.
Lack of Critical Analysis: Journalism should encourage critical thinking and engage in thoughtful analysis. However, Kanwal's approach often lacks the necessary depth required to examine the complexities of policies and their implications. His coverage often simplifies complex issues, ignoring potential pitfalls, and fails to offer alternative viewpoints. Such superficial reporting hinders the public's ability to fully comprehend the intricacies of the government's actions, leading to an uninformed citizenry.
Questionable Ethical Standards: Journalists are expected to uphold the highest ethical standards in their profession, ensuring fairness, accuracy, and integrity. However, Kanwal's unbalanced glorification of PM Modi raises questions about his commitment to these principles. Journalistic integrity necessitates independence from undue influence and a commitment to representing the truth, regardless of personal biases. Kanwal's apparent lack of impartiality raises doubts about the credibility of his reporting and undermines the public's trust in journalism as a whole.
