I love the status menu/control centre. I'm a KDE user (for now anyway) and fortunately, one awesome person started development of one for KDE as well. I think it's the only real innovation that macOS has contributed to the wealth of UI ideas for the last ten years. Nice to see linux DEs make it their own. (note: I know macOS didn't invent status menus, but the unified iOS-like control centre is the best implementation of it)

What makes Gnome really great is the fact that it can be used on small screen devices too. Widgets like the sidebar automatically collapsing on itself when window is made smaller is exactly to account for small screen use.

Great presentation, with many hidden features made apparent to we Linux Gnome users.
By-the-way, Fedora replaces Gnome Web with Firefox.

Thank you Jay for a great presentation.

Worst thing about new Gnome 43 is that in Nautilus 43 they removed the 67% icon size thumbnail as "intentional design change" and it was the most common used for 1080p screens.

I wish they would give GDM a facelift just like they did with Gnome itself. It should look more like the lock screen that Gnome uses. A few icons also deserve an update.

Thanks for making this walkthrough. Regarding the "Format" drives option in Nautilus, I think certain distros add it if it wasn't there already. I have formatted drives using that method on Zorin OS 16 and Ubuntu 22.04 LTS in the past.

I actually like how the Text Editor and the Console are called like that, because this is what they are, and as a new Linux user, it's so much easier for me to figure out what is what. I am overwhelmed with all of the applications I've never seen and used before, especially when their names don't tell me what they are for.

OpenSUSE Tumbleweed got Gnome 43 a while back.

Gnome 43 is now on Debian Testing. It runs very well on AMD with Wayland.

It looks like the best macOS features have been copied. Finally. If. down the road, the Gnome developers get some coherency into the apps (fonts and styling), it's going to be quite a pleasant professional-looking experience. Exciting.

Also, Jay - I like your backdrop/walls much better now. I found the silvery texture distracting and hard on the eyes. It's nice and warm and bright in your studio now. New end music too, very nice.

I have 2 sound cards, and I love having the audio output device selection menu built-in. I no longer need that extension anymore.

You have to manually enable web extension support using gsettings because it's an experimental feature.

I remember test driving Gnome 3. It was so forward thinking that a lot of people couldn't wrap their head around it.

Format options is already there in 42.2. Works great.

For me personally, the status menu on the shell with the pill shaped indicators seem to be a regression from what is already there in 42. Subjective tastes, I guess. Thinking about possibly skipping Fedora 37, just because I just installed 36 only yesterday and I am skeptical I'd be able to seamlessly upgrade to 37 with the nVidia drivers and secure boot and everything.

I hate the "only X out of " button stock on apps. I like to expand windows to full, easily. You gotta go out of your way to install the expand and minimize. I had it on my main box running Open Suse Tumbleweed but I switched to KDE Plasma. It drove me crazy. Here's an analogy of Gnome 43- I open the drawer, take out a pencil, close the drawer, start writing, make a mistake, open the drawer, take out eraser, erase, put eraser back in drawer, shut drawer, begin writing again, make mistake, open drawer... Just put the eraser where I can reach it! HA HA. I have like Gnome 42 on another PC running Fedora just to get practice using it . Maybe learning more shortcuts or workflows I will begin to enjoy it. I saw your Ubuntu video and how they tweaked Gnome. That looked pretty cool.
