Czech here. I wanted to point out the fact that when we were in kindergarten as kids, we were told that the white colour stood for a beer foam.

White for Bohemia, red for Moravia and blue for Slovakia? I'm Czech but I've never heard of such symbolism. More like white = peace, red = courage and blue = sky, but this isn't official either. The three colours are just traditional Slavic colours, blue was added to avoid confusion with Poland.

Czechia or Bohemian kingdom use RED and WHITE colors in flag for many centuries as a Kingdom colors. Red is from background color of heraldic emblem and white color is from heraldic figure (white or silver lion, first 12th and 13th century). Alike Poland kingdom (white eagle on red background). The colors on flag in realy represents NOTHING! (Yes, but there are some folk legends). First Czechoslovakia flag (1918) references from Bohemian Kingdom flag. Second Czechoslovakia flag (1920) add blue insert to distinguish from Poland (unofficial, the blue represents Slovakia, but realy no). There were many ways to add color and shape, but last triangle was the best.

Animals on emblems of European countries have often wears a crown, because they are derived from the emblems of the royal dynasty (non royal families were emblems without crowns, logical). It's much better and more elegant than emblems some non-european countries, they have animals that holds weapons! (guns, rifles, machines, spears or ARROWS! How dicky...).

The red-white flag from 1990-1992 is only "country flag" for Czechia (part of Czechoslovakia, based on Bohemian Kingdom flag), not Czechoslovakia Republic!

The "Funny story" about "lower lion's tail" is only "stupid story" invented for this show now. It is not a real story. The real folk story is about getting the lion (Brunsvik story - ancient fantasy tale about hero and his live lion), another legend about Fridrich Barbarossa king (12th cent.), and some ancient tales or theories about "two tails getting".

A guy from Slovakia here.
Both countries agreed to not use our Czechoslovakia flag after our countries split.
But Czech republic took this flag anyway.

1. According to the treaty that split Czech Rep and Slovakia, neither succeeding states should about the symbols of Czechoslovakia, hence the dismay of the Slovaks when the Czechs stuck on with the old flag.
2. The Moravian Eagle was, for a time before, chequey gules and or, to represent the Habsburg dynasty.
3. IMHO the modern Czech CoA is one of the best in terms of how it practiced quartering.

Crowns are placed, because they are symbol of the kingdom which nowdays refers to a state. So basically when you put crown you mean independent country which govern itself. Yeaa it's hard for the Americans to understand us, but Europe lived for more than 2000-3000 years under monarchy governments.
