In this video, I show how to line break in a cell in Google Sheets. I show two methods for doing this. You easily insert a line break into a cell to add a new line by using the keyboard shortcut of ALT + ENTER (CONTROL + OPTION + ENTER if you are on a Mac). There is also a formula you can use to add new lines if you have a lot of data to perform this on.

For anyone wondering how to do this on mobile without an alt key, here is how.

Select the cell and type
="line one text"&char(10)&"line two text"&char(10)&"line three text"

In Google sheets, the CHAR() function returns an ascii value. "10" is a line break.

The example string will make a cell that looks like this:

line one text
line two text
line three text

Thank you! So much more clear and simpler than help articles on Stack Exchange and Google Help. Much simpler than I thought it would be. I will subscribe to see what other video topics you cover. I imagine this is dedicated for Classroom Teachers, but really helpful for others too!

Hi, I tried the substitute formula however, the result was there was one space between two lines. My test should show
PRODUCE:
NO EGGPLANT
but after applying the formula, it shows as
PRODUCE:

NO EGGPLANT

How do I get rid of that space?
