GoPro Max 2 Leaked: KILLER FEATURE speculation!

A photo of the GoPro Max 2 was leaked a few days ago. Is it legitimate? Is it from a reliable source? When is the release date of the Max 2? What can we tell about the Gopro Max 2? Is it too little too late or could it have a killer feature that could change action cams forever?

At 12:46 I made a mistake and omitted part of the video. I meant to say that the insta360 x4 8k mode uses its quad bayer sensor’s high resolution mode. X4 is not native 8k, so it has less detail than a native 8k sensor.

I had my Max for a while and tried to wait for the Max 2. I end up getting the X4. I hope the Max 2 is worth the wait for everyone that is waiting.

GoPro Max 2 really needs to include Bluetooth audio and external audio support this time around. It's a feature many users have been waiting for a long time

I wouldn't be surprised if this is the new GoPro Max because the new GoPro 13 and the smaller hero just dropped which is 2 new cameras and it's got those same similar lines/fins on the front of the camera.

The GoPro 13 says you can get with the new batteries 2.5 hours of continual recording which if those are cooling fans then that's one thing but otherwise I call bull crap on that because even the 11 I can't say about the 12 when you're recording in 4K it overheats and shuts off.

I just want better low light for either the regular GoPro or the GoPro Max. That's the one thing they're lacking on. Don't get me wrong they've improved on a little bit but it's still very lacking and that's the one thing over higher frame rates, higher 8K quality, or other new features I would have that over anything else and buy it immediately.

what they need to focus on is color volume and processing out noise to give a more clear picture.

I see GoPro have discontinued the GoPro Max on their website.

I think the real breakthrough on 360 consumer cameras will be them using 1" sensors with resolutions above 10k or 12k, finally outputting high quality video in low light and true 4k comparable IQ after edited and reframed. We are still a few years away from that though the technology is right here right now already and has been for a while.

I'm guilty of owning the MAX since it came out but I still haven't gotten around to using it. I just keep using my Insta360 cameras.

Hopefully GoPro can improve their software experience. Reframing has always been the killer feature for 360 (especially as VR continues to languish) and having automatic syncing, editing, subject following etc would be really useful. Software is where GoPro can really have a defensible advantage - especially with the advancements in AI, you could imagine GoPro (or someone else, based on their software track record) doing fantastic image segmentation, or 3D scene generation (splatting/meshing etc)...

What would be really cool (and surprising) is if the "Max 2" actually unfolded to produce 3D capability (like my beloved EVO). I wish 3D was more prevalent, and I wish I could figure out an EASY way to watch my 3D EVO video on my Meta Quest 3.

getting the highest possible Image quality should be the thing GoPro should put their focus on. Maybe even work with a reputable lens company like Zeiss, Leica or whatever brand name is hot right now and write it big on the case.

GoPro have always been very overpriced and their competitors DJI and insta360 will not move aside now very easily, especially as their respectable products are at least in my opinion far superior and more innovative.

WAIT! What do you mean by "automatic reframing?" Doesn't the X3 and X4 already have "Me Mode" which is reframing the video in real time, to keep subject in frame? I am confused.

Could it be a 1”inch sensor or bigger single lens camera?

I've been travelling for 3 months now and have literally only been using the Max, resorting only to the Hero 12 when the Max overheats or if I need to shoot in lowlight. A Max 2 with higher resolution and heat sink would be a boon. Plus a supercomputer...

The only killer feature I need from GoPro is that they work, consistently. I’ve had so many fail on me over the years. I’ve lost count.

Automatic in camera re-framing is NOT of interest or a priority to me as a creator, I still want to manually re-frame my shoots (Zoom level [FOV], angle).

Pixel count is important to me but equally so is pixel size (i.e. sensor size).

All that R&D and the App is still crap ...
GoPro MUST improve (🌐360°) PC & App editing software. I have (multiple of) both the GoPro Max and GoPro Fusion (Plus many other 🌐360° cams [X2, X4, RS1, ERA, Vuze, Sphere, more]. GoPro post production processing/editing software is the WORST. GoPro has made minor and far between improvements (i.e. SLOW). I will still buy the new MAX 2 (just because) but I will likely not use it as much as other brands if the post processing does not significantly improve. The GoPro Fusion (IMO) produces a better image than the GoPro Max, however, post processing the Fusion is SLOW. Though now, using HIGH END computers with NVIDIA 4090, the Fusion post processing (stitching speed) is dramatically improved, if you have the latest beta camera firmware & latest beta PC APP (GoPro Fusion Studio 1.4). The GoPro Fusion Studio 1.4 PC App NOW FINALLY takes advantage of the 4090 and makes stitching speeds close to X4 stitching speeds, but the GoPro Fusion Studio 1.4 editing is still non-existent (but CAN be cleverly tricked into Insta360 Studio) . GoPro Max stitching/editing is better than Fusion, but not much. The very last secret beta camera firmware for the Fusion bumped its resolution up AND that DID improve image clarity beyond the MAX.

My best use of GoPro Max is with GoPro Labs and the MASSIVE quantity of features the GoPro Labs adds! Great as a 🌐360° game cam or 🌐360° security cam or 🌐360° dash cam.
My best use of a GoPro Fusion is for B-Roll (often on a chesty for lens-risky close up work, it excels in quality and is an affordable risk).

Bottom line, GoPro needs to improve the external editing experience to a competitive level. The camera just simply needs to record the best image possible, and the app should do the rest of the work effortlessly.

Killer feature? It could flip open for VR180. The GoPro max was a good camera for it's time 5 years ago except for 1 thing: NO SOFTWARE. That's right, GoPro never made software to cut and stitch together 360 video. They only let you reframe and export flat video, and only on the phone. On PC you can only export the footage as a full panorama - no editing, no cutting, no stitching, no adding soundtracks. It's seriously sad. I had told myself I would never buy gopro again until they had a proper editing program for the PC. But Unfortunately the other 360 options arent perfect either.

Great video. You have my hopes up. I've been holding out for the Max2. I hope Nick is right and it's worth the wait.
