Garry actually describes magnus as lethal combination of karpov and fischer..so we get why magnus loves dynamic play of kasparov because his playstyle is different

Kasparov is all about dynamism and initiative.

Carlsen is more positional, blending versatility (plays a LOT of openings and doesn’t have a favorite, so it’s harder to prepare against him) with resourcefulness. He always finds a way.

When I first read Kasparov's book "Child of change" as a teen-ager, it had a huge affect on me. Kasparov's games were just amazing. Never before have I seen such powerful display of creativity, activity, accuracy, tactical awareness and deep calculation ability. Even his games at 12-13 years old were so impressive, I just couldn't believe that a young teenager actually played them.
I recommend everybody to read that book..

I don’t even know how to play chess and I still find myself watching him and other greats at different sports and games.

Kasparov will try to attack you in the opening. Magnus will build his impenetrable defense while outmaneuvering you in the middlegame.

Magnus is such a great champion that he gives other great champion the respect they deserve without any envy.

I simply love this man, a prodigy and a sweet young man.

My favorite sentence of any chess book
is on page 90 of Kasparov Teaches Chess.
It is:"Most experienced chess players
prefer strongly protected formations
capable of repelling any attack." I always
try as much as possible to keep this
thought in mind when playing chess.
Thank you,
Brad

Kasparov has this kind element to his game. I'll term the "train tracks of logic" and also an element of simplicity that despite incredibly complex positions. ❤

Like all Norwegians his command of the English language is incredible!

Very interesting. Some would say that Magnus’ play (prior to his first becoming the WC) was also more dynamic. Perhaps the pressure of being WC makes one more conservative?

true genius is a respectful and beautiful thing. Much respect to Mag

I wish Joe hired a super GM player like Hikaru to translate Magnus's algebraic chess notation to simple English, having Magnus do it himself already fries Joe's brain

I agree 100%! Kasparov was something different when he 1st appeared. He was the master of sacrificing pieces that ended up with his opponents in undefendable positions.

Tal is my favorite. He was just a madman. He'd sacrifice 4 pieces, leave the rest hanging, and still win. So entertaining.

Magnus is the greatest player ever, as Kasparov says in his books. He says that the last champion is always the best.

Magus will always say Gary is the GOAT and the period he is discussing was truly GK's pinnacle, huge record settingfor him.

I’ve never seen anyone plays like Tal!

I have watched many of Magnus Carlsen interviews and it always comes across as if he's not that big a FAN of Bobby Fischer. He's also not a big fan of Anatoly Karpov.
But he's always spoken well of Jose Raul Capablanca and Garry Kasparov.
However, Garry Kasparov calls magnus a lethal mix of Bobby Fischer and Anatoly Karpov (Magnus 1.0). And also more positional in his style of play and a mix of Jose Raul Capablanca, Anatoly Karpov and Vasily Smyslov (Magnus Carlsen 2.0). He also took inspiration from Reuben Fine in his early days.
Magnus has himself said that he has peaked twice in his career. Hence the two phase as before and after winning the championship.
Recently, Carlsen might have said some choice words about Kramnik but back in the day he used to say he's learnt a lot from Kramnik. The Berlin defence, London System, the English are just some clear examples of it.
The way Magnus Carlsen talks about Bobby Fischer is the same way Bent Larsen used to talk about Bobby Fischer. Sort of impressed but "really not impressed" 😏 in sort of way.
