Phenominall video A1! this was both nostalgic and a shock trip for me! I NEVER even knew we had race beta mission! I remember the skill tree very well because I introduced my friend to STW and he looked at the skill tree whilst we were in a call and he was like "WTF IS THIS???" ahahah! Edit: Transforms should have never been removed, a great way to use up duplicates etc :c

Who remembers before the locker change the only emotes you could do were “dance” (default dance) and ride the pony? And your pickaxe was always set to whatever current upgrade you have

the fact i remember all these just shows how fast time is passing by…

I remember most of these, the blaster upgrade was definitely for the better, they actually look like mist monsters now, I don't really miss these much, while I do get some nostalgia for old stw, I very much prefer the way it is today, cannot fathom playing without the QOL stuff we have now.

Here are some of the things that were changed:
1. Remember when abilities costed energy and sprinting used the same energy? So you could either sprint or use abilities, but not both.
2. Also when you were knocked down (DBNO) you could not crawn around initially, so your team mates always had to go to you.
3. Ceiling electric field only activated from 1 tile up. Tire traps were also changed, when they introduced Havok physics. They were quite useless before. Gas traps applied a DOT (damage over time) which you could stack using multiple traps. Now they only get damaged while they are under the trap, but supposedly it also takes care of bees.
4. Propane husks did not self detonate when they reached 1/3 health. This was changed around the time sound walls were introduced, which forces them to drop their propane. Propane didn't disappear after the husks died, so we had to clean up the trap tunnels on longer missions, like SSDs.
5. Some traps used to detonate propane. They did a lot of back and forth before removing this.
6. We were not able to change the perks on traps and weapons initially. This was changed during the first Blockbuster event.
7. We could not craft weapons and traps on lower tiers, so we had to have multiple of the same weapons and traps levelled up.
8. We could not bulk craft traps.
9. We didn't get full materials back when recycling traps.
10. We weren't able to destroy building in a single hit in our SSD and get our materials refunded.
11. Building status was not saved at the beginning of SSDs so if husks destroyed something, it stayed destroyed. Traps durability also did not recharge, so we had a lot of half used traps in our SSDs.
12. We were able to use floor launchers to launch husks into the air and forcing them to take fall damage. This was changed after this was exploited heavily in Frostnite. Now Smashers only get staggered by launchers.
13a. The ultimate edition had an unlimited epic (purple) survivor transform that was twice as efficient as rare (blue) survivors regarding the amount of training manuals earned. It also used people cards which you could earn by rescuing survivors.
13b. The amount of manuals we got were increased to compensate for the removal of transforms. Commons (grey) didn't use to give any training manuals before. You had to transform them to uncommons (green) to get any manuals from them.
14. Super Deluxe used to have 1 friend code, Limited Edition had 2 and Ultimate Edition had 4 friend codes. They replaced them with Troll stash llamas if you bough the pack after the change. If you bought it before the change, you could still keep the codes. I think if you have the codes, but didn't retrieve them the game will not let you get them anymore. Or at least that's what I've heard from people on Reddit. But if you have the code retrieved, you can still activate them.

15. Packs were automatically upgraded to one pack higher (Standard > Deluxe > Super Deluxe > Limited > Ultimate). Ultimate owners got 8000 vbucks and the Metal Team Leader pack.
16. You could earn exclusive one among many banners from a Twitch promotion. Sadly this promotion is no longer active.

These are some of the changes I can remember from the top of my head.

Don’t forget, a lot of traps got changes too. Like gas traps were OP traps

The biggest thing I miss is regular meaningful updates. Wildlife, mantling, crouching, and Ventures serve no purpose whatsoever. I do miss patrol wards and transform keys though.

One gameplay mechanic that was thankfully changed was the way dmg used to work for flingers. Ranged dmg was significantly reduced. Im not sure if melee weapons had a dmg multiplier but it was one of the best way to take care of them. Outlanders were able to hold down an anti material charge (which use to be an ability). The pickaxe also had a heavy attack which wasnt all too great.

Fortnite is such an interesting game. The way it overwhelms you with this feeling of nostalgia needs to be explained.

Wow, I had forgotten most of that. I liked most of those old game modes, I wish they’d bring back the race and the one with the trucks.

The mode where each player builds a base and you defend them in turns was hell with randos. A lot of people wouldn’t build anything and then you’d all fail.

it felt nice to remember the old STW, and the 2x2 retrieve the data would have me building only half of my 1x1 box lol

What a nostalgia trip. Some of these things I barely had any recollection of or had completely forgotten about. Thanks for refreshing my memory. Idk if this is mentioned in the video but I miss the old retrieve the data where the storm wouldn't close in. I think it got replaced in like 2019. Surprised they kept it that way since.

Touching on some of this:
- Challenge the Horde also had a version that that was just grassy. That was the one I remember the most. It may have been dependent on progression, but don't quote me on that.

- There were two different Survive the Storm events. The winter one (Survive the Holidays) did have snow in much the same way that current Frostnite maps do. You've actually got a video with gameplay of that up on your channel.

Another thing about the founders edition was if you bought the deluxe edition you would get 1 code to send to a friend to get StW & the ultimate edition would give you 2 codes. If you were a founder you would get a lot of messages from random people asking for the code.

A real walk down memory lane here! Thanks A1, I forgot a lot of these existed. What a time this game has given us! Watching a friend play and being an RPG nerd when I saw that skill tree I was in 😂

STW is so underrated, i wish that epic recognized this game more, since it was their original idea and it still has potential. But shit didnt get promoted enough.

Survive the storm sounds really fun! It would be cool to have a day night cycle mission where you're not building to defend an object but instead you're building a fort to keep yourself safe! I feel like constantly having to refill the frost night burner with blue glow definitely took a lot of away from the mode.

I swear there was a modifier called embiggend husks or something. All I remember about it is that regular husks were larger than normal

I still kinda wish epic could have left the upgrade packs for the founders after the change.

The original Repair the Shelter bots weren't bots. They were transparent floating diamonds full of crafting materials including nuts and bolts. Because nuts and bolts were difficult to get people would do the start of this mission just to collect the materials then leave it to start again.
I miss those diamonds!
