Great breakdown. He acknowledged that the movie industry is changing as a whole and you have to adjust, but didn’t crap on anyone either. He was just speaking the truth.

I find his films to be absolute cringe but that was a nuanced, honest and graceful answer.

First Iron Man getting the recognition it deserves.

Fascinating director hasn't always produced the best movies but agree it is hard to release original ips against comic book movies

Unfortunately, Hollywood movie making today is all about branding. If you don't have name requisition, the independent TV/streaming route is the way to go.

When Scorsese came of age, he was able to define his own dream of cinema with the works that came before him. That meant chasing a form of cinema that he was used to, like The Red Shoes, Casablanca, The Seven Samurai, and other classics.

Things changed when the Russos came of age and realized a dream. They grew up on blockbuster movies. The Spielbergian fare that defined the age of wonderment and lines around the block.

It's possible for each to be right about their pursuits, without attacking one another. But I think we need to recognize both were reared on different things and different perspectives on why they wanted to participate in filmmaking at all.

If you make something true and something you want to see then it doesn't matter if you're making cinema or making movies.

You're making something that matters.

That's art. And no one can take that away from you.

He looks like an older cross between Taika Waititi and Kevin Spacey.

Lots of people in the comments say Emmerich isnt a good director. Maybe he is, maybe he isnt.

All I know is that Stargate, Godzilla, The Patriot, The Day After Tomorrow & 2012 are all a blast to watch.

Then there is Independence Day, which is a classic and I don't care if anyone disagrees.

Finally someone who accepts the present for what it is. Ppl are smart they'd see an indie or a small budget much rather at home when they want to on Netflix or whatever than go to the cinema pay money organise a plan with friends sit with idiots who get a text every min. Scorsese needs to understand that there's nothing theatres offer that make these art house movies better in cinemas then at home

He's like Micheal Bay, but good. Also, I think the purple goes well with your hair Roxy.

Great way to phrase the question Roxy!

Roland Emmerich is making perfect sense here, whilst Scorsese and especially Coppola are coming from a place of bitterness and not making a coherent point. It's the trend of vacuous IP movies, plus sequels and reboots that are the problem, where pre-established characters can be marketed, regardless of how good or bad the movie may be.

This dude is not even a good director. Mediocre at best.

Roland Emmerich, lol.
This is like Vanilla Ice criticizing Mozart about what music.

Yeah, the buisness is changing, but Roland Emmerich produced blockbustermovies also...

He says the big superhero IPs don't require explanation because they are so well known but neglects to mention that Marvel has built the MCU from lower-tier heroes and virtually unknown characters. GOTG weren't known at all by general audiences. Even Iron Man wasn't particularly well known. What he says is true NOW I guess, but Marvel built that more or less from the ground up.

Journalists keep repeating that Mr. Scorsese came to inform us that Marvel & etc. is killing the market. Of course it is. But he is only calling our attention (again) for what has been happening in the last ten years. So, the question is: where were these same journalists? Do they still look around... or are just looking for a new soundbyte?

He seem so polite here without giving a diplomatic opinion, why would he bash superhero movies moonfall time
