This video shows the mixing behavior of lead white and some alternative options. I also discuss some of the strengths and drawbacks of using lead whites. I hope this info and demo is useful. Happy Painting!!

Vasari is currently having their Earth Color Sale! It's a very good opportunity to try some of their amazing colors at very reasonable price points. Watch the Yellow Ochre video to understand why I enjoy using their earth colors.

***Correction! Rublev Venetian White is made with lead carbonate and Barite, I also use their Flemish white which is made with lead sulfate***

Thank you!! While I love my vasari lead white I have been looking for a alternative but nothing I’ve tried can quite compare. That Sennelier titanium buff however looks like a great option.

I just bought a translucent white from Schminke mussini that I recommend if you havn’t tried it. Its a very finely milled zinc/titanium, very transparent with a cool undertone. Its as expensive as a lead white but easier to get. I’t wont replace my lead white for portraiture but is a good option for landscapes.

looks like santa has blessed me with a wonderful video this christmas xD ... I have been trying to find a white (without zinc) that is to my liking for a while now and I would have probably wasted more money on different whites without ever trying the sennelier T-buff. I mostly use the schmincke translucent white in combination with a MHarding titanium white. I also have a tube of iridescent gold and silver without ever even considering it in a mix. Great video thanks!
