I'll add a little bit to your theory on how the mimic had the freddie talkie - what if it was used as an audio lure? Gregory and Vanessa lure the mimic with the walkie talkie and seal it away, so Gregory didn't need to run away before the entrance was sealed. And of course, the mimic learns once more and uses the walkie talkies to lure someone else down there to let it out.

Thank you Dawko for this retrospective of The Mimic, not a lot of players have knowledge of the books to a certain extent, so it's refreshing seeing big Fnaf youtubers like you look up to those who might not know about the books

If you look at the mimic at the end. He even mimics Cassie’s pace. If you run for a few seconds and stop and keep going.

If you look at him, he’ll run, stop and run again. It’s mimicking you.

It's amazing how much could've been avoided if the final computer required a password or if Gregory and Vanessa just left a note behind.

There is one thing I really like about Glitchtrap being an aspect of the Mimic: It means that Henry and Michael's sacrifice in FNAF 6 was not in vain. They really did put William Afton down for good, and release all of the souls. FNAF 6 + Ultimate Custom Night still work as the conclusion/finale to the original FNAF story. From Help Wanted onwards is a new story, with a new main villain.

I don't actually believe that any of the new animatronics are possessed, in any way, except possibly the blob. This time it's all about AI and AI gone wrong.

So, in a sense, the phrase "I am Gregory" said by the Mimic upon tricking Cassie into freeing it is thematically appropriate in how the Mimic is taking Gregory's place in tricking someone/something to enter that room for their own purpose; Gregory tricked the Mimic into the room to trap it, and the Mimic pretended to be Gregory to trick Cassie to the room to free it. The Mimic by that point has _become_ Gregory by accomplishing the same thing he did to trap the Mimic.

As an aside, I like the Mimic thematically because, while it _is_ a new entity, it's also kinda not at the same time. Its programming is a mimicry of Glitchtrap, which is itself a digitized neural scan (or possibly a ghost) of William Afton. This in essence makes the Mimic a copy _of a copy_ of William.

It's a neat way to create a new villain that still maintains a distant connection to the OG villain, in spite of it being a new entity. The Mimic _is_ William, but only in a loose, ephemeral kind of way. William himself _is_ dead and his soul is burning in hell for all eternity (Ultimate Custom Night), but his _influence_ still exists in the bastardised remains (or _remnants?_ Heh) of his consciousness inhabiting entities that now linger long after his demise. It's a kind of horrific passing-of-the-torch, in a sense.

Evil never truly dies. It just changes form.

A theory I saw a while ago suggested that all of the Animatronics were designed in some way to deal with The Mimic if it ever escaped.

Freddy's stomach hatch could be used to protect any children still inside the building. And it's implied there are multiple on him based on the prototype model we see in Ruin.

Monty is pretty damn strong, and just as violent (just look at his room), so he'd probably be the one doing the actual fighting.

Roxy could see through walls, so she'd be able to track the Mimic through the building.

Chica's voicebox was able to stun nearby robots, which would be pretty handy against it.

The Daycare Attendant could fly children to his room if the Mimic escapes.

And the theory also suggested that Bonnie could see through the eyes of the Pat-Pats, which would be useful for monitoring the Mimic from a distance.

The Blob being down there with the Mimic also acts as a first line of defence. It's clearly more than happy to attack Burntrap, who could potentially be a modified version of the Mimic.

And the sheer amount of humanoid robots in the building makes for the perfect distraction for something that is known to rip the heads and limbs off of humanoid objects.

Its only a theory, but I like it.

I didn't expect to tear up for Roxy. She's actually so sweet and kind, and probably was an awesome Cool Big Sister figure for a lot of kids. That was a lot of good characterization in a single scene, followed by Cassie crying for a while afterwards, made for a really effecting scene!

Honestly. They handled the Mimic really well. And while it was blatantly obvious that we were being tricked, It just standing up and repeating Gregory's name until it distorts was terrifying. There are even hint in the AR game about the mimic, as there are hidden messages in the code that seem like Afton making threats, but now looking back. It's obvious it's Mimic being spiteful and blatantly stating its intentions to its creator.

This whole thing about an AI based around learning and mimicking, created out of laziness and greed, going out of control because of the information fed to it....ended up being surprisingly topical.

Being completely honest, Ruin is definitely one of my favorite FNaF games. Seeing the Mimic wearing that suit genuinely terrified me loading in and seeing it like that for the first time

Also, I like to believe that the suits sealed in that room isn’t just a reference to the books, but also to FNaF 3. In one of the training tapes it says the Springlock suits will be retired and replaced with alternative suits that are questionable and irrelevant. And this IS beneath an old Freddy’s location. So if it was on purpose, I love this game even more :)

Dawko, it would be amazing if you talked about the controversy of the elevator being cut off by Gregory or by the mimic. It would make sense that Gregory did it, without having ill intentions, because he did all that and wouldn't want the mimic to follow Cassie and get to him and Vannesa and go out in the public, but people also wanna assume it's the mimic because of the static change while Gregory was talking to Cassie when he said "It's not your fault". If you made a theory video of clearing that up, it would be really cool.

(Edit to inform that in the voice files, at the whole game Gregory was named "Grimic" meanwhile after the real Gregory came back the voice files had his normal name as "Gregory".)

I think the Mimic was the perfect villain, but the books should've come out AFTER the DLC because then it would've been a huge plot twist

I think it's also good to mention HELPI. It sometimes gets yellow eyes and lines across it's head. That definitely seems like it's mimic's influence taking its over to make Cassie keep getting closer to freeing it

A couple of things to wonder about:

1. The VANNI system has some interesting implications for Cassie. For one, it’s strongly connected to her entire mind and psyche/memories. Secondly, there’s still a chip in her brain (and it seems to have been there before she even got the mask considering Helpi’s dialogue… so who put it there).

3. Who is Cassie’s dad? Is he important at all? Is he still around? He seems to be largely connected to Fazbear Entertainment because Cassie notes (in the item info) that her dad used to collect Fazbear artifacts (like old lunchboxes) and knows what happened to Bonnie (Bonnie was also her dad’s favorite).

4. Why is there “Prototype” on the bottom of Freddy’s foot? If it’s the same Freddy from SB, what implications does that have? Is that why he was able to not be effected by the virus? Is it a different Freddy altogether?

5. I noticed throughout the gameplay when you exit from the game and look at the task, there’s a sub-task (idk what to call it) that typically has really strange dialogue. I think it’s the mimic since it becomes more and more desperate the closer you get to the end. Additionally, with the VANNI mask, sometimes you’ll hear ‘Greg’ say “I’m lonely, ” and one of the sub-tasks also say “I’m lonely.”

6. Looking back at SB and also SL… we see many times where the Afton family is being rebuilt. William seemed to be trying to build a human looking robot to “put back together” his family in SL, and the Mimic seemed to pick up on that because in the SB tapes, when Vanessa was under glitch trap, she was told to order things like fake male masks and other odd items. There were also recreations of the Afton family with staff bots in the sticky note room. So I wonder why the Mimic is doing this (because I think it’s safe to assume the real William is dead and no longer around). Maybe just doing its old mimicking program and nothing more… can never be too sure though.

7. How much time has passed since SB and the DLC? It looks like _years_ had pass when Cassie arrives. Yet, Gregory still sounds the same. Is Gregory ever in Ruin to begin with and that’s why? Does this support the theory that he truly is a robot, or has it really been much less time? Also, how did Cassie and Gregory meet? She was alone at her birthday party, so surly it couldn’t have been at that point in time.

8. I wonder if the one who said “Cassie?” at the end of the elevator ending truly was Roxy. During the fight between Roxy and the Mimic, we hear the Mimic trying to replicate Roxy’s voice. Eventually it succeeds as Roxy powers down. So is it the Mimic that finds Cassie and is trying to manipulate her once again…?

9. I’m not sure if anyone else has heard this or not, but in the AR world you’ll hear more voices than just the animatronics’ old voice lines. For example, kids crying. There’s also sometimes a voice we’ve never heard before that definitely isn’t Greg’s or anyone’s. I don’t remember what it says but I have no clue if anyone else has heard it or who it would even be.

I’m sure there’s a bunch of other things, like what’s going on with Bonnie and the wet floor signs, but this comment will be too long. Just some questions and things to ponder about.

Edit: I skipped number 2 LMAO sorry about that! Also, it is very wonderful seeing everyone theorizing! :)

I just want to bring to your attention the idea that the mimic dropped the elevator, not Gregory. We know it can talk to Cassie without the walkie talkie (like when “Gregory” tells her the door is open), and its probable that whenever H.E.L.P.I. has yellow eyes and weird veins, its actually the mimic in control. Those facts being evident, its very suspicious there was a little audio hiccup as Gregory was explaining that the mimic was now loose. The subtitles also do something weird just then. Its still labeled as Gregory speaking, but it starts a new like of dialogue, such that there are two “Gregory”s on the screen at once. While Gregory can be a little jerk, I’m inclined to think that the mimic was responsible for dropping the elevator.

I personally am starting to really like the idea of the mimic. I also really like the idea of the blob being all the dead employees, since it’s an incredibly smart idea method of not just throwing out all the past rules of the Fnaf universe and still keeping the ideas and storytelling rules of the original series present.

Part of me still wishes more of this was told through the games. Like think about it, there is literally no way in the series a player would know the name of Henry, ONE OF THE MOST INTEGRAL CHARACTERS OF THE SERIES, without reading the books. That is WILD to me.
