this ring is a health tracker???

I have been hearing about Oura Ring off and on for the last year or so, hearing about how it's a "stylish and subtle" health tracker. As someone who hates how apple watches look visually, I knew I had to try it out.

Initially read the title as The Ring is a health tracker and was very confused as to why that ghost girl would care about my health

A paid membership is NOT justified for a product that costs this much. The end. I'm paying for the goddamn product, its PURPOSE should be included.

The idea of having to pay a subscription fee to use a 300-500 dollar ring is absurd! Like I can't imagine paying every month to use my smart watch D: I also had a bad reaction to silicone wristbands, it was a hassel to find good ones.

As someone who’s worked in wearable tech for 3 different tech companies, I’m super excited about this video. Side note: bands aren’t pure silicone, they’re a mixture dependent on the company, so if you have a latex sensitivity that could be it. Alternatively, some of the silicone bands do tend to retain more debris and moisture than others as part of manufacturing or safety purposes (materials testing), annoyingly nothing you can do for that except clean it a ton. The least skin reactive bands are made from fabric or leather. Metal is also pretty good too but stainless steel can have allergic components in it (nickel).

I like that the ring is a more subtle alternative to a smart watch if you just want to track your vitals but it's way too expensive for what it does considering you can get a fitbit for way less or a current gen smart watch for the same price or less with way more functionality.
And making the app subscription based is just insane at that price point.

Gonna stick with my galaxy watch 4 classic, looks like a regular watch with a bevel and I've got all the functionality I need... just wish the coating was more scratch resistant

Side note if your considering it, the app price is going up to 6.99 a month. As much as I think I want it, I'm Canadian which means this is just WAY too expensive for me.

I have the oura ring because I was participating in a study that provided it a couple years ago, then oura offered me gen 3 with a lifetime membership, so I upgraded personally. I wouldn't buy it new without that.

Wait, so if you don't pay the monthly subscription for the app, you can't use any of the smart features and it basically just becomes a regular titanium ring? That's so gross :( it seems really cool, but I would never spend that much money on something that I have to pay a monthly fee to use. I wouldn't spend any money on something I have to pay a monthly fee to use.

I looked into 3 items: the ring, the Apple Watch and a Fitbit. For budget and the size, I went with a Fitbit. Currently, I have a Fitbit Charge 5. I needed one of the specific features that Fitbit offers: overnight oxygen saturation levels. I have, also, had the Fitbit Sense, which is more like an Apple Watch in size and function. As soon as I could get oxygen monitoring on a smaller watch, I did. With Fitbit, my sleep medicine doctor was able to look at my sleep history and found out that I have a 26 hour circadian rhythm. Meaning my body doesn’t function on a 24 hour schedule. Everyday, my body thinks there are 2 extra hours in the day that don’t exist. Without the sleep tracking, we would still be trying to figure out what my issue is. My medical team and I use my Fitbit as a tool to see what trends we can spot early, so we can try and nip any early signs of illness in the bud. I am very chronically ill, and any dips in my health could mean hospitalization or worse. Fitbit just offered us more of the data I personally needed. Other fitness trackers may work better for others, but that’s my experience.

Things I've learned to help with irritation from silicone bands:

1. Switch over to your dominant wrist while you sleep so each wrist only gets half the abrasion of a band.
2. Don't bathe/swim with it. Yes, it's safe for the watch, but it traps moisture causing a rash on my skin.

I think the information it gives you is really cool and useful but I do know one person who had one and ended up going to the doctor several times because of all the information she got from it made her think she had medical issues that it was detecting early. Turns out she had Illness anxiety disorder. I guess in this case the ring did it's job and found an abnormality she had.

I've been looking at getting this, the price point has been my sticking point. Based on your experience, I think I'll stick with my Galaxy Watch. It does occasionally think I'm sleeping when I'm awake, but my heart rate does drop into the 50s, so that could be messing with it.

This ring sounds amazing, and I'd love to have that data. Rings are one of the few types of jewelry I can actually remember to wear on a daily basis, and it looks nice. I just wish it was a one-time payment.

This is such a weird moment for me!! I got a call this morning asking me if I was interested in being in a research study through the hospital that I am a part using the Oura ring! I had absolutely no idea what it was, and my limited research did not give me anything to push me in either direction. But then your video popped up!! Been subscribed for about 6 months, love your channel!!

I recently started working as a researcher who scores sleep data from actigraphy devices so while I’m still actively improving my skills I do have some insights into these kinds of devices. We rely heavily on people tracking their sleep in a diary alongside wearing their devices, especially for naps. A device like this ring probably would benefit from being able to compare it’s autoscoring to information you could input through the app. Anyways this was really interesting, love your videos!

Interesting. The NBA in 2020 used these in the bubble to track if someone had COVID. Interesting to see a Youtuber I respect review it. Thank you.

I use an Apple Watch Scrunchie band and I love it— so comfortable and so many colors and fabrics available and very easy to clean!!

I know this might be weird but I think this would actually be a really cool option for a meal wedding band or something for guys that are really into health or tech. Like I could see getting this for my fiancé instead of a normal ring. Or even having someone take the inner band out and fit it to a band we like better. Not only do you not feel so bad paying the price cause it’s a wedding band but it’s also dual purpose. I don’t know. Just a thought. Wouldn’t be for everyone.

Personally I think it would be cool if they offered a silicone option similar to those “groove” rings for hikers. Or make it so you can just buy the inside part with the tech and have it fitted to whatever ring you want. Or you send I ring in of your choosing that they can apply the tech band to.

I think my biggest problem with the ring is that I tend to like to switch what rings I'm wearing for the day (and at that price point, you know I ain't buying 2). And I also like to switch which finger I have my rings on. Also, does fidgeting with the ring effect the results cause I find do that a lot when I wear rings

This is absolutely the review I needed. I’ve been looking into this ring, but the monthly subscription is just not justifiable for the functionality. Personally, I would prefer to pay $100-$200 MORE and have unlimited access without the monthly paywall!
