This is a problem across all agricultural sectors. "Get big or get out" has been the mantra for decades in American agriculture. It's a sick abusive cycle that just keeps repeating and probably won't stop until there's no one left to produce domestic agricultural goods.

Thank you for staying on top of this. As a small beef producer myself I can tell you we are being squeezed from every angle. Not only did cattle prices drop this year the cost of feed has gone up along with the cost of fertilizer. I would encourage people to find a local producer and by fresh off the farm.

Are you telling me that corporations are ruining another way of obtaining a middle class life style and not living like a serf?
I am in shock.

Farmers & ranchers across America are treated rather poorly considering they produce something everyone requires. America doesn't need to consolidate to Bill Gates as the sole farmer/rancher.

The scariest thing is that anyone in office wouldn't call situations like these monopolistic.

Saagar is one of those people who screams "GOOD MORNING" at everyone but when you shout "GOOD EVENING" when his caffeine rush wears off he hates you forever. LOL.

You can't trust the "organic" label either.

You should also look at the Dairy Industry. Many family businesses destroyed by large factory farms and dairy processors refusing to pick up milk from smaller farmers they served for decades.

This is the first step toward getting Americans to eat bugs.

Large corporations love regulation. It ensures that only the powerful with economies of scale can navigate it and keeps the upstarts out.

When was the last time we had politicians who actually had the guts to stand up to big money interests? Was it Theodore Roosevelt? I can't remember

They raise prices 60% and think they're just gonna keep it that way... There's no money left. They already have it all. Just sitting there on their mountain of beef and money while all the people fixing roads and teaching your kids starve

Thank you for covering this. Ranchers break their backs for every dollar they make. Would be curious how Bison ranchers are fairing as well.

"Made in the USA" only means that the final step of the production happened in the USA. For meat that means the meat packing plant.

Saagar’s joy coming to work is inspiring. You can tell he and Krystal are working in their purpose. It’s a beautiful thing to watch 🥰

I've known a few ranchers in my time. Why is it that the actual producers of consumer goods, especially the totally necessary ones like food growers, are so dramatically underpaid, but there's always some middle-man between them and the consumer who nets most of the profit from the sales? Of course, meat packers and groceries are providing a real service. But I don't understand why this dynamic is so pervasive throughout our economy. The music industry, engineering, medical research: everywhere you look, the managers and middle-men get way more money than the people actually doing the core work. Are there economists who can explain?

Every time there is talk about inflation, these companies jack up prices and blame it on inflation. It's shameful.

Known about this for years, glad you guys are covering it. Ultimately though, the problems with this market are spread into all markets.

Go in on a local rancher's steer either by yourself, or in half or quarters with friends and have it butchered. You'll get every cut at a 1/3rd the cost!
