The Coffee Table That Turned My Hobby Into A Business // Mid-Century Modern Design // Woodworking

The Fitzgerald Coffee Table

Back in the summer of 2018, I make my second coffee table. The first one I had made about a year and a half prior was the typical farmhouse DIY style - white base, X braces, special walnut stain - you name it.

I had been making pieces for friends and family at this point. This coffee table came after over thirty design iterations in Sketchup, and I've been in love with it ever since.

This isn't meant to be a how-to video, but simply documentation of my growing love of woodworking. I hope it inspires you to push yourself with designing and building unique pieces that make you happy.

I love that you do not waste wood!!! Some youtuber's do not seem to care about using up wood in a careless way.

I'm not anywhere near a craftsman in the art of wood working and my dad was a turn of the century
carpenter, he designed built and operated sawmills all around east Texas in the 40s-70s . I have had the love of trees logs rough sawn milled lumber etc in my b!ood since a young boy in the late 50s I can say with
all the confidence of a 71 year old man with a woodshop at my home, you are a craftsman in every sense of the word & a credit to the profession. Great stuff

Very very nice. And it's the craftsman, not the tools that make the difference.

iv never seen this technique before of leaving material around the object to be able to clamp it. that's an awesome idea

The music that individuals choose to back their videos with bespeak of their temperament and style of creation. This may be the first I've come across that made me sit back in my arm chair, just watch, and forget about time. Thanks for that--great craftsmanship and great video.

You have really nice tools for a hobbyist. I’ve seen woodworking shops that don’t have half of what you have. I’m impressed.

When you are a craftsman, it shows right away. Everybody can make some tables but being unique it’s style. 😊

Simply stunning, a true work of art. I think this would be beautiful in teak wood as well.

Very nice! Don't listen to critics who complain about the cost of your tools or whatever, bro. You just keep on workin like a champ and make your dreams into reality

That's by far one of the most beautiful pieces of furniture, that I have ever seen. Beautiful and very well done.

That table is gorgeous, can't hate on your tool selection either. Your shop setup and tools themselves are downright drool-worthy, and I am completely envious.

It is great that you have come up with a unique design that works so well. Most woodworkers never get beyond copying a successful design. If you lose the metal drawer glides and develop your own system that works with your design, you are in the fine furniture category. You have the skills and patience to do it!

I am a carpenter too, but I draw a lot of inspiration from your work.
I get a lot of inspiration for your work.
thank you.

One of the very best instructional videos I have ever watched. Soft, nice music and not a bunch of endless banter! The illustrations are great. Love the usage of the template and router. Kudos!!
