The words historically accurate may be being used a bit loosely here. According the mythology, they are depicted as the top half being that of a beautiful woman, with the only fish parts being the bottom half. This doesn't match that description in the least.

I think the horror version, is actually a modern thing, where people mistake the difference between sirens and mermaids and depict them as horrifying for the scare factor, as a homage to the danger that they hold, even though sirens are also historically beautiful as well.

That considered, I would consider this the opposite of historical. Still well done cosplay though.
