Intro to Creating Functions in R (E2)

Learn how to write your own functions in R. Sometimes you will be doing a list of tasks or a unique task that you can't find a function for. In these cases you can just write your own function. This video will cover a VERY basic example of how this works. In future videos I will cover how to do more advanced things such as loops inside of functions.

Thank you for all of your videos, you are a huge inspiration. Dmitri I am a sophomore in college and I have taken a year of computer science(Java and data structures), a year of calculus, intro statistics, macro theory and micro theory and I am signed up for linear algebra this semester. I learned python syntax this summer and am in the process of learning Beautiful-soup, Pandas, matplotlib, and selenium. I am interested in economics and data science as well. In order to position myself optimally for jobs in this field, do you think it would benefit me more to declare a computer science major/ math major with my economics major, or do you think It would be better to do a math minor, computer science minor, and data science minor to supplement my economics degree? I understand there is no black and white answer but what is your opinion?

Dimitri, thank you for your very insightful videos. Please, may you share your thoughts on Julia, and its prospects for replacing both Python/R/SAS in research and C++/Java in production at least in some banks and other securities firms in the coming years (at least as a "glue" language), beyond BlackRock, Federal Reserve Bank of N.Y., and Aviva, where it seems to already be used to some extent.
