“Nightmare” is an understatement: here in Britain we are experiencing a series of interlocking nightmares in a multiplicity of forms. The Brexit has precipitated a simmering constitutional crisis in that Scotland and Northern Ireland are both threatening to come away at the seams, and the Welsh Assembly is distancing itself from Westminster. The energy crisis is catastrophic for both farming - already thrown into confusion by the Brexit - and hospitality. As for the NHS, already hammered by COVID, it’s facing massive labour shortages. Strikes are proliferating in every sector and widespread civil unrest is the likely outcome.
