Long ago, my friend bought all the Wizard101 worlds up to Karamelle with crowns back when they were much cheaper. Four of his seven wizards had already passed Celestia, but Selenopolis introduced a frustrating roadblock: spell-weaving fusion became mandatory after Dragonspyre, requiring access to Selenopolis to continue the main storyline. This left him with three options: pay for a membership, spend crowns on one of the game’s most useless areas, or wait for free membership events to progress his remaining wizards.

I don't understand why this video got so much hate. You made good points about the lack of quality from Kingsisle as of late and how lackluster the updates have been. I've been playing this game since 08 and it's absolutely baffling how little QA testing occurs before updates go to live realm. There are too many bugs to list at the time of posting this comment. It's also insane how much glazing goes on in the official Wizard101 discord towards the developers. You can't criticize anything without getting backlash from the mods or other community members simply because it's criticism. I have seen time and time again KI adding new features to the game just to half-ass and abandon years later (gardening, fishing, monstrology, cantrips, to name a few), and I'm sure magic weaving/spell fusion will be no exception. With all the money I and many players spend on subscriptions and crowns, we should demand better from a multi-million dollar company. I don't see anything wrong with that.

The bazaar update is completely terrible. Honestly, I'm not sure what this "abundance of gold" they are talking about is. I am not a super casual player and I still have to farm gold nearly every day. Unless you are the 1% of players with maxed out accounts with every pet, gear, etc. you could need, there is still a big need for gold. Pets are an incredibly unfair resource sink that KI has no intentions of changing because of the amount of money it brings them in. There is now 0 items you can farm to sell to the bazaar for gold. I couldn't even imagine being a new player and trying to create brand new wizards with this update

Their 100+ spells includes spellement path revamps for one, And at 170 with the pin system, dual schooling is effective. I know people dont look at it this way, but as a card game, this is a BIG change. Being able to mix and match cards for a new deck and new strategies, that's a great idea. And complaining creatures spam plagues and shields is a dumb argument. Ever played a card game? Magic the Gathering has the color blue, notorious for counterplay. Asking for enemies you can steamroll with no effort will make the game boring and kill combat. I like the fact the game is pushing players to get out of the "Blade into 7 pip AoE" for every fight. New content can also be a good thing, and people need to stop bashing things because it's different. If an enemy does counterplay, that's the nature of card games. I like the fact we're finally getting dual school options, and Spellements also incentivize dual schooling because there's off school spells that can buff your main school. An upgraded Cyclopse for example puts DoT traps on creatures if they have DoTs, so a fire has more trap options. Plus the chromatic symbol is great for things like Keeper of Flame, and now suddenly a Fire/Myth dual suddenly has more trap options. Fire's really good at trapping, and Myth gives fire more of that, for example. I know saying "I have fun dual schooling" isn't a good argument, but it's a nice refreshing change of pace from my usual style of play, and I think the game needs more of that. Giving players options to dual into things and add variety to their combat sounds like a great idea to me.

HOWEVER... I was expecting brand new spell quests for the spell fusion system, just like Arc 1 did with it's spell quests. I remember if I wanted my 7 pip AoE for balance it required me to go work, and kill the plague oni. it was a LOT of work, but also rewarding. Plus, my 7 pip AoE quest on my balance is COMPLETELY different than my Necromancer's quest, where I go collect liquid nightmares, so there's variety. I DIDN'T want another thing to grind out. This game has far too many things you need to grind, and there's no variety anymore. THAT'S the problem. Spell fusions require grinding out random fights, not using your cards or the wizard you crafted? Come on, that's baloney. Plus, the barrier to entry into spell fusions is too big.

And finally, killing the bazaar and killing viable ways to make gold is such a terrible idea. I like the search feature, but KI, people made the "Empower Black Market" BECAUSE you made gold impossible to farm for otherwise. If you wanna kill the "Empower" market, you need to make better ways to get gold. You took a step in the right direction when you made a Karamelle boss in the "Rating's Board" dungeon give 20k gold per run. More bosses in longer winded dungeons NEED to drop more than 100-200 gold per run, seriously. You're telling me at best, the final boss in the Wizard City Catacombs gives me 60-ish gold? Come on...

If they wanna go through with this update, they need to make a few changes. And I feel like if you wanna point out problems, you need to offer solutions:

1) Make Spellements less grindy to farm for. The only way to dual school effectively is collecting pins, having good 170 gear, AND upgrade spells via spellements. That's WAYY too much to grind for. I've been able to grind it out, and dual schooling is actually really fun. BUT, the amount of effort to get there was such a headache, and with "Portal of Problems" being the only spellement farm, that's an issue. I think spellement upgrade costs need to be SERIOUSLY cheaper.
2) FIX YOUR PITY SYSTEMS FOR GODS SAKES. The pity systems you have in places like Novus are the absolute worse. I have millions of reagents, but because I dont got these shoes, I cant craft this thing? The cost for converting items should, at most, be 2 to 1, MAYBE 3 to 1. (2/3 boots for 1 boot of your choosing). 9 is asking too much. I know MMOs ask to take a lot of a player's time to do things, but you've literally got timegates into timegates into farms. (Keys, to bosses, to spellement farm) which are DREADFUL. Actually here:
3) Drop rates NEED to feel rewarding. I HATE spending hours of my time farming for stuff and getting dogwater. My time in this game is not respected, and these updates have been making the game progressively more grindy, and disregards a player's time. GOD FORBID I gotta make a new account. That takes too zamn long. This game is grinding player's patience into the ground to do anything, and players are finally starting to get sick of it.
4) Revive actual spell quests. Having a fun story reason to get a spell is far more engaging than grinding a trash mob for several hours just to get items to craft a spell. Want new quest content, there ya go? I dont think Harry Potter collected 40 glass vials and 6 amber just to use "Leviosa". No he learned it through study, you know... The original point of Arc 1 Wizard101?
5) STOP BREAKING YOUR GAME AND FIX YOUR GARBAGE! KI has had several updates, in both Pirate and Wiz, that are completely broken. You broke combat, Animations in pirate are STILL not working properly, and your games are progressively getting more buggy. At this point, I'd rather the devs spend a year or two FIXING the game and improving the half-baked content they have over adding a new world. STOP ADDING NEW CONTENT THAT'S BAD. Fishing is still dooky and latency is a problem. Farming is a nightmare, and cantrips are a literal waste of time and energy (the resource). And pet training is the literal definition of insanity. And there's no reward for completing the job that's Wizard101 endgame, there's a check that says "Take a bath, you're fired." Because right now, this game is a job, and you're paying THEM for the privilege of being their workaholic dummy. Remember when players complained about visiting every world to collect the pieces of the Dragonrider staff to fight Malistaire in Dragonspyre..? Man why cant we go back to that, at least it was engaging and fun...

As a PvE player this update deeply disappointed me I found out I can't even spell weave into my own school which is probably one of the biggest gripes I have with the update. I think your right that the spell weaving system is a dead on launch concept for PvE players because why would anyone want to weave into a school that is not their own? It's like you have the gear meant for your PRIMARY SCHOOL why use a spell that doesn't accomidate to your gear? Not to mention but you also have to have the other school's spell trained so your really using 2 training points just to learn the new spell instead of 1 It really makes the whole system seem pointless from a PvE standpoint. As for the Bazzar situation it's really a shame that fhe devs want to kill an existing market that I use and many other wizards do too I'm interested to see how this will affect Gamma's trading post since emps will become dirt cheap

Not every update can do everything- one step a time. The spells is 99% of the focus which is cool. Since we not had proper spells- the only shame is that this world is lvl 170 instead instead of lvl 20.

Spell weaving would be sick way to spice up console launch if it was from low lvl

If your limited to one trained spell they should remove the cap

I miss old wiz from 5 years ago😢. Came back to roshambo being the new class identity and all I see is I counter your counter or I will use your buffs against you. Duo schooling sounded fun back then but not what I was expecting. I’d be hopeful if they can somewhat figure out some way to make the game more enjoyable again instead of just saying hey this is how the game is going to be now so good luck. Imo this feels like someone who played another game like wow and is trying to incorporate those ideas into wiz.

Main Discussion should be what is a game intended for....
For majority its for a break where you join your family, friends or by yourself spend and enjoy leisurely time.
Majority of player will not have enough time to grind everting. Before we had gear to grind which was fine.Till Drakmoore or Catacombs. Weekends could be used to get best gear in the game and player would have mind to try other side activities and can as they have fair chance with gear stats and spells. Then came spellements which I felt the grind like crazy of a grind unless you spent crowns. then came raids which give best gears how ever blocked behind guilds, without any regard for solo players or player who cannot join raid due to time / zone limitations Need to find a guild that does raid in your time or hey packs again. now making a gold grind too might as well quit.

I disagree with your points on the new area and spell fusion. I feel like since we are already 170 it’s easy to complain about no level cap increase and how it’s an extension of krok instead of a fresh world. As for new players or players still questing in arc 1 they won’t even be able to compare this update to anything because they haven’t reached 170…. So I feel like it all depends on who the player is! Imo I love this update. I love the idea of expanding krok and I love the idea of spell fusion…. Will I ever use it? Maybe who knows BUT I definitely feel like the spell fusion is more beneficial for PvP players vs PvE. So overall, I feel like we shouldn’t trash this update completely. Especially with saying “less is more”… I am one to always use this saying! However with wizard101 I think it’s great they are making this big of an update seeing as they haven’t done an update like this before… it will be great for the game overall especially since players have an option to use spell fusion. So you don’t have to use it if you don’t want to. I understand the questing is mandatory but it does add more love and story to the game! I’m sure they’ll fix the bugs before they launch it to live realm as this is test realm for a reason.

As for the bazaar! I completely agree with you on that lol! 🙌🏻

I think spell fusion is a cool idea but the grinding for it is absurd. If it was a lot easier to obtain then i think the limited amount of spells you can learn would be a lot less painful.

wait wtf you can only learn one spell when you weave??? WTF i was so excited for like reskin Medusa or balance storm lord that I was gonna use for fun but nooo it’s for PVP players like omfg I genuinely hate when devs focus on the 0.5% of players who do pvp and fix things that aren’t broken just to break the game more like atp no game I play is fun anymore

Remember, its not too late to update the level cap to 180 right now. Then add enough xp to level from 170-180 in a quest turn in after completing the world (talking to Merle Ambrose). Still can be fixed!!!

I'm just gonna say it. I love this update. I didn't really like the Bazaar update but who knows, maybe Kingsisle will help us find other ways to get gold. It's really the only thing I didn't like. Selenopolis is BEAUTIFUL. The revamp of Krokotopia is BEAUTIFUL. From what I remember you do need to quest in Selenopolis to continue into the next arc. I didn't quest the entirety of it bc its bugged but honestly this was a fun adventure. I was a bit bummed I didn't get to try out my new death spell bc that quest was bugged too but maybe next week once its fixed. This update has amazing potential to be great. Not perfect but great. A 8.5 out of 10 for me because the Bazaar update has got to go.
