That goes for men too. Why do we groom, haircuts, and shave for work ?? Do we seek sexual attraction??

okay. if i wear makeup at my hospital, am I trying to attract sexually my patients/coworkers? hell no. I'm trying to wake up in the morning, fix my morning face and so I can feel more confident within myself while i work professionally, not with the purpose of attracting others. that's tedious and requires too much energy. it all depends on the intention. makeup itself is not made to attract your mate.

I am a hetero woman, and I wear makeup all the time when I am only going to be around other women. It's not always sexual signaling. Sometimes it's that I want to look like I'm well rested and don't have blemishes on my face! Obviously you wouldn't wear false lashes and red lipstick in a highly professional position, but there is a such thing as a "no makeup makeup" look. It just makes one look put together and rested, clear skinned.

As a minor who wears makeup, makeup isn’t sexual and never should be seen in that way. Women definitely don’t see it as sexual, we do it for ourselves and for the fun of it.

Why do suits have shoulder pads? To attract women. To make women think that you have broad shoulders and you are strong and reliable! But why do women's coats also have shoulder pads? You might ask. Of course because women all chase masculinity these days. That's a different topic.
Lol, what nonsense is he spouting? I don't even wear makeup and even I feel enraged.
You should know certain things before you speak. I have always respected this guy but now I don't think he knows what he's talking about. Do you know that women are FORCED to wear makeup, apparently because without makeup you look unprofessional? Also, makeup has become a norm is what people should understand. Even 2 yr olds wear makeup nowadays. Do they also want to send sexual signals? Of course not. They are just imitating their sisters, mothers, aunts, etc. Even if your whole family doesn't wear makeup, you wear it due to peer pressure. When women start growing up, most of them think that as women, they should wear makeup. It's like how people who don't drink alcohol are forced to drink during social situations. Don't people know alcohol is bad? They do. But why do they still drink it? Because drinking has become a part of many societies. Likewise, makeup has become part of societies. When everybody does something, it becomes a part of the culture, and you should analyse it likewise.

Allowed? What in the world? Why is everyone trying to be God? There is only one God, one Savior Jesus Christ and one Holy Spirit. Why are men always talking down on the women and preaching on the women? The Holy Spirit knows how to guide and lead in all truth. I think everyone that is married should concern themselves with their own wife and not everyone else’s wife. Wearing make up is not a sin. God looks at the heart not the outside appearance. If a woman is a true born again Christian the Holy Spirit will indeed teach her how to dress and she will be pleased to please the Holy Spirit and walk in a modest appearance. If a woman is exposing her self at the work place and looking wild then she is a sinner not a Christian. Jesus said you will know them by their fruit. Glory to the Most High God, his Son Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. Come Lord Jesus Christ.

The problem is that most of these women are not concerned with professional ettiquette. You go to work, to work. Not them though

After scouring the literature JP is absolutely right, particularly about the blush and any sort of reddening lipstick/lip gloss, the reason those things are attractive is because it literally simulates natural biological responses to being fertile and aroused.

If you apply rules to makeup in the workplace like only wearing certain colors, or no crazy lashes or eye makeup and stuff it essentially has the same effect. Just do that. Everyone’s happy.

To be honest sometimes We just wanna be representable rather than sexually attracting someone.
When I go in a meeting or Presenting an assignment it's better to look presentable as rather than looking dull. I think a lot of case it's same for women. They wanna be professional and presentable so her employer will see and judge her if she's good enough to represent.
Incase of military there's no reason for make up

Some of these comments make me question. Why do you need makeup to feel confident? Why can't you learn to be confident in yourself without it like most guys do? Isn't it a false confidence since that's not actually how you look?

Maybe school uniforms is a good idea in public schools

He makes a decent point. I always say it’s rude to wear overly distracted clothes, hairstyles, makeup, or scents in a general public setting. His style is just fuk’n obnoxious

Yeah, he needs some personal introspection on some of his thinking, brilliant man, stuck in some places

Make up is definitely sexual… No doubt at all. If you’re working in an operating room for almost 45 years where wearing make up really doesn’t make any sense because you have a mask on your face and a paper hat on your head all day, there’s always some woman who has to overdo it with the eye make up. The question is why? From my personal perspective, those women who wear the crazy eye make up are the ones who are constantly flirting with the male employees/male physicians/ male patients. And it’s never a married woman or an older woman who does this. Something to think about.

I'm not saying that wearing makeup is wrong, or men dressing with suits, or any kind of physical arrangement any person can do to look good, visually aestheticly pleasing, for that matter, isn't wrong, and nobody should be judged by doing said things.

However, evolutionary speaking, not just for humans, but for all species, visual (and many other factors as well) aesthetics play an important roll when it comes to sexual reproduction. We all instinctively seek a partner that has visually aestheticly pleasing features, because we instinctively search for the best genes on said partner to reproduce and pass on those genes to the next generation, all species do this, and all species go in search of these features and have all kinds of mating rituals to determine whether or not the partner is fit for reproduction, and pass on those genes. It's an evolutionary instinct, and a lot of people demonize and discriminate this behavior, when it shouldn't be, it's a natural thing to do.

Makeup (when used in a sexually provocative way) is just but one tool out of many to enhance this effect, such as doing exercise, being confident, using perfumes, etc, etc. Beauty and health are bound together, and this is biologically true.

What Jordan Peterson here is trying to do is ask where can or where should we draw the line between professionalism, self control, and sex.
