After battling pancreatic cancer, soap icon Drake Hogestyn passed away on Sept. 28, one day shy of his 71st birthday. The actor starred for four decades as John Black on "Days of our Lives." Now, his onscreen sons Eric Martsolf (Brady Black) and Christopher Sean (Paul Narita) share their loving memories of their "Days" dad in an exclusive sit-down with Access Hollywood.

I rarely cry over the passing of someone I have never met. Having watched Drake Hogestyn on DOOL since 1986, in a manner of speaking, I, like so many others, felt as if I did know him through his portrayal of John Black.

The thought that sustains me is that Drake celebrated his 71st birthday in Heaven, and OH, what a celebration that must have been!

This was hard to watch. Drake was a soap great. Days won't be the same without him. Those final scenes showed how much weight he lost and its sad seeing him like that. He was always in great shape. It's sad we've lost so many icons as of late.

Wonderful he had scenes, either on the phone making reference to his other days children, and in person with marlena, eric, and tate and brady. I rewatched them this evening on peacock, his last three days after such a long and full career. Thanks for everything, drake.
