Your words are common sense and the result of important personal experience. I find it very nice that you wanted to share your story so that others can find the courage and strength to look forward. I have been drawing for most of my life, since I was five years old and could not yet speak but then life forced me to give up my great passion. In 2020, after my mom died, I felt the desire to start drawing again, and today, at 62, I am doing things I never thought I would accomplish. My old passion is back, even more intense than before, and not a day goes by that I don't spend hours drawing and studying to improve my knowledge and technique. It is a wonderful journey that will never end.

Thank you so much, I needed someone to put a voice to how I was feeling and to basically say, get you but in gear and stop thinking, just do it! Thank you.

Every time I went to a long period of depression and creative block is the same, I find something o did twenty years ago and think that it's better than I can do now. And sometimes I'm feeling that way and go try drawn something just to find out that I was right, my awkward teenage version could draw better than my sad adult version.
It's true until I notice that I already draw like that, a long time ago, and did even better years after that, and so I start to feel better about my skills and realise I never lost my skills, I just forgot what I could do.
It's hard to improve without training but it's even harder to improve if your brain isn't working properly, sometimes just what you need is a little hand to see that yourself is an ally.

Your lettering is delightful and congratulations on your degree! I didn't know they had degrees in puppetry, which seems silly to say outloud- they have degrees in every other aspect of entertainment!

I'm working on a similar sketchbook, it's approximately whatever is wandering through my mind. It's been not only helpful but extremely freeing. Realizing I don't have to show anyone anything was a huge revelation with my constant internal pressure to "work toward a career" with art and promoting myself.

I get started, but don't continue. I'm much too distractable. Or I just haven't found the project that calls to me.
