Thanks for your hard work, I think you have some of the best Windows builds out there! Keep up the good work and don't stop!

Choosing between REFS and NTFS file systems depends on your specific needs. Here's a breakdown of their key differences:

Scalability:

NTFS: Supports a maximum volume size of 16 exabytes and a file path length of 255 characters.

REFS: Offers significantly higher scalability with a volume size limit of 262, 144 exabytes and a file path length of 32, 768 characters. This makes it ideal for large storage pools and massive files.

Reliability:

NTFS: Relies on traditional data protection methods like journaling and Check Disk. Can suffer data loss due to system crashes or power outages.

REFS: Provides stronger data integrity with features like checksums, mirroring, and automatic corruption detection/repair. This minimizes data loss risks, especially on large, mission-critical systems.

Performance:

NTFS: Generally offers good performance for everyday tasks but can slow down on large volumes with high I/O demands.

REFS: Can outperform NTFS in specific scenarios like virtual machine deployments and storage spaces direct, thanks to its optimized architecture and copy-on-write functionality.

Compatibility:

NTFS: Widely compatible with all versions of Windows and various other operating systems.

REFS: Only available on newer Windows versions (Windows Server 2012 and later) and lacks support for some older hardware and software.

Other factors to consider:

Feature set: NTFS offers broader functionality with features like file compression, disk quotas, and encryption. REFS currently focuses on data integrity and scalability.

Ease of use: NTFS is more user-friendly and has wider support for backup and recovery tools. REFS may require more technical expertise to manage.

Summary:

Choose NTFS if: You need broad compatibility, familiar features, and basic data protection for moderate-sized storage.

Choose REFS if: You prioritize data integrity, scalability, and performance for large, mission-critical systems, even if it means sacrificing some compatibility and ease of use.

Ultimately, the best choice depends on your specific needs and priorities. You may even consider using both file systems for different purposes.

I hope this information helps! Let me know if you have any further questions about REFS vs NTFS.

I have been using ghost operating system for about 1.5 years and have not encountered any problems. The performance is incredibly good and makes your computer feel very comfortable.❤

ReFS has more to it, than the eye see.
NTFS provides a maximum capacity of 16 exabytes, while ReFS has 262, 144.
file path length in NTFS is 255 characters, whereas the maximum path length in ReFS is 32, 768.
ReFS - is a fault-tolerant technology, designed to eliminate the shortcomings of the predecessor and reduce the amount of information that may be lost
during various operations.
ReFS also have Block clone, Sparse VDL, Mirror-accelerated parity.
ReFS is more modern, and gets rid of a lot of useless features, that slows down a system, compared to NTFS.
ReFS also have auto-repair, many performance improvements, integrity streams, it benefits way more to Hyper-v than NTFS does,
it outperforme NTFS in many ways, the only reason to actually keep NTFS, is to stick with what you know, its an old system, so ofc its supported / patched etc,
more times. But it's kinda like everything else, at some point, nobody stick with windows 98 just because it works, nobody cares about DDR2,
nobody cares about HDD, you get the idea.
The features & improvements are a mile long, the video just doesnt show the casual user any benefits.
But that's the same with updates, more or less, look under the hood and and you see a ton of benefits.

Did not expect this partition format be available for Windows. Although, NTFS was made for most configurations, it still doesn't make it's way to be better than ReFS when comparing to data rescue. Anyway, can't wait to try it out. Great work!

P/s: Make win11 24h2 to be available to all computers pls xd.

😮 Thanks a lot Ghost, not only for the OS I use as daily driver, but also for these informative videos. It seems like ReFS is still not a match for the "New Technology" FS, even if it is now old...

Great video. Thank you. The biggest advantage at the moment from refs is that windows defender loads the disc many times less than on ntfs, for example, when installing some unreal engine (at the end of the installation, when after downloading the unpacking)

ReFS is supposed to be the future of file systems that is gonna replace our current NTFS because it is resilient, much more efficient in terms of data protection from corruption and overall better, as long as it is fully optimistic without any potential issues or bugs

Hello Ghost Spectre, I think releasing tomorrow ( February 18th ) would be amazing as I have the chance to stay at home and I will spend my time reinstalling and getting everything ready back.
Somehow, I was obsessed with reinstalling Windows, especially whenever you release a new Update ISO but I knew what I had to do as I was too good at tweaking and installing stuff more efficiently than ever before LOL
