On October 4th, 1957 Sputnik 1 was launched into Orbit, kickstarting mankind’s journey into space. Less than a year later, President Eisenhower signed the National Aeronautics and Space Act – officially forming NASA. For the next 65 years the agency pushed the limits of human spaceflight. In a retrospective look, Nightly films explores the greatest moments in the history of this pioneering agency – from the monumental undertaking of the Moon Landing to the incredible construction of the International Space Station, reflecting on how the agency has changed mankind’s knowledge of, and relationship with, space.

Thank you for sharing this. My Dad was an Engineer on the Apollo program and I worked at the Space Center during the Shuttle program. This brings back great memories, enthusiasm for what we are now doing and an excitement for what is to come.

Next year. 2024 will be the 100 anniversary of Hubble’s andromeda galaxy awakening. Until then the world thought the Milky Way was the entire universe and Earth was the center of it all. They had no idea those smudgy images they saw through earlier telescopes, were galaxies, each with their own billions of stars.

Ceding NASA & US space programs to the EU and NATO is one of the worst things that Americans have ever allowed their government to do.
